What's this in my porridge? Pics attached.

Made DS some porridge a week or so ago which he didn't eat. As I was tidying away, I noticed a few streaks of pinky red in it, like jam. I forgot about it. This morning he asked for porridge again so I made some, and as I was serving it I saw a few of the same streaks. This time I removed them (any I could see) and he's eating the porridge now. I considered chucking it out but thought that may be a bit OTT and he was desperate to eat his porridge. I have OCD and sometimes find it difficult to make simple decisions on these matters, so checked with my DH and DM, both of whom agreed that I should remove the streaks but then let him have the rest.

Anyway now I'm asking the MN think tank what it might be? I will confess that I have eaten these small bits now - partly to see if I could taste anything and partly in solidarity with DS in case he also ingests anything.

For info, I make his porridge with oats, milk, banana and a little cinnamon. Usually a little maple syrup or honey, this morning it was a sprinkle of sugar.

Bits of freeze dried raspberries? Maybe the oats are processed in a factory with cereal that has those in. Would send your picture to the oat company as I’m sure you’ll get a voucher.

Sometimes when I make banana bread, there's little red or purple threads in it, think it might be from the banana OP

Thank you.

I know what you mean about bananas but this is more pinky red. I think the berry thing might be more likely 🧐

So this morning it happened with his weetabix...

This made me think of the vitamixin sprinkles I have been adding to his breakfast. That hadn't even occurred to me yesterday, probably because the sprinkles are white/brown, but I think they must react with the milk or something. I've emailed the company...

Pour some dry oats into a clear dish or jug and see if you can find any pink or red. I agree freeze - dried fruit sounds likely

Oh, xposted. Vitamin sprinkles it is, then
