Dd 25 attempted suicide the other week. Due to what she did she was being sick from 9am to 6pm when they eventually have anti sickness

I'm sorry, what is the question?

Blameitonme7000 · 02/04/2021 23:10

Is it usual for them to wait so long to give anti sickness

Nobody can answer this question.

TreeDice · 02/04/2021 23:14

She does need to bring up whatever she took I would guess?

PennyRoyal · 02/04/2021 23:15

Sorry your DD is struggling. While if I don't really understand your Q, I hope she's got the support she needs.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 02/04/2021 23:15

Probably to let the poison get out of her system.

coffeecow · 02/04/2021 23:20

Why would they give her anti sickness? I assume her being sick was removing anything bad from her system? How is she feeling now?

Id have thought this too

Depending on what her OD was the antiemetic could have increased the effect or more likely stopped her body processing it. They want her liver to be working appropriately, and any other Medication will add an extra burden. They do not recommend purging (vomiting) after an OD usually. Although sometimes they are given activated charcoal

RagzReturnsRebooted · 02/04/2021 23:24

Vomiting is only a problem that needs medication if it goes on long enough that it may cause dehydration and loss of electrolytes. It could have stopped by then by itself. Also, as PP said, if she took an overdose of pills they may have been hoping they'd be vomited up.
By that point it would have left her stomach and the vomiting was causing distress and fluid loss, so they gave anti sickness.

Anti sickness tablets are not given as a matter of course for lots of different things either because being sick is actually helping rid your body of whatever it is or because the sickness will stop by itself before it starts to cause other problems. To be honest I think you have bigger problems than how long they were left to vomit.

This. Do you need to chat to work through the bigger issue here?

So sorry you are having to see your DD suffer so.

I don't imagine that the health service was punishing her for her attempt. Too many of them have inside knowledge of suicidal feelings.

It must have been awful to be so sick - but adding more drugs to her system too early could have been dangerous for her.
