A spin off from the thread about your saddest song, what is a song that lifts your spirits/ makes you happy(or at least happier) when you hear it?

Boys of Summer Don Henley

@ToffeeNotCoffee

Agree with most of these.

Here's mine:

River of dreams by Billy Joel
Our House is a very very fine house by um, don't know
Let's stick together by Bryan Ferry
Start me up by Rolling Stones

Our House with the "It's a very, very fine house" lyric was written and sung by Graham Nash, originally of the Hollies and was recorded when he was in Crosby, Stills and Nash.

I believe it was a song he wrote with his then partner, Joni Mitchell.

Argh, I meant he wrote FOR his then partner, Joni Mitchell.

I also agree that Bryan Ferry's version of "Lets Stick Together" is all fun!

Catrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine Smile

JWrecks · 06/04/2021 03:06

Silly, but it's Seagulls by youtube channel Bad Lip Reading.

Give it a listen. I doubt you'll be able to stop yourself dancing at least a little bit!

groovergirl · 06/04/2021 03:10

Another vote here for Mr Mayfield.
"Just move on up
Toward your destination
Though you may find,
From time to time,
Complication."

Disco Inferno by the Trammps and Cosmic Girl by Jamiroquai still make me run screaming to the dance floor Glitterball then fall about laughing at the lyrics.

FixItUpChappie · 06/04/2021 03:17

I've Seen All Good People (Yes)

Tiny Dancer (Elton John)

FixItUpChappie · 06/04/2021 03:20

Or maybe "Float On" by Modest Mouse

And to "Solsbury Hill"!!

FixItUpChappie · 06/04/2021 03:21

That should say yes to Solsbury Hill - great song Brew

MountainPeakGeek · 06/04/2021 03:32

So many, but first few that spring to mind at the moment are:

Good life - OneRepublic
Raise Your Glass - Pink
Melatonin - Birds of Bellwoods
Brave - Sarah Bareilles
Freak Like Me - Halestorm
On Top of The World - Imagine Dragons

ilovesooty · 06/04/2021 04:04

You Came - Kim Wilde
Island of Dreams - The Seekers
Micky - Toni Basil

JWrecks · 06/04/2021 04:15

@FixItUpChappie Yes, Float On is another good one!

Of course there's Don't Stop Me Now by Queen, too.
And anything by Weird Al. My all time favorites are White and Nerdy and Amish Paradise, but any of his songs will do.

This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole.

It was the first dance at my wedding (didn't want some slow dance dirge) and also happened to be the song playing on the anaesthetist's playlist when we held our DD for the first time. ❤️

Graphista · 06/04/2021 04:43

I've created a whole Spotify playlist of these sort of songs it includes

George Michael - faith
Elbow - one day like this
Kelly Clarkson - stronger
Gloria Estefan - get on your feet
Des'ree - you gotta be
Bangles - manic Monday
Wham! - wake me up before you go go
Whitney - I wanna dance with somebody
Aretha - respect
Demi lovato - confident
Little mix - wings
Republica - ready to go

Among many others - seriously its huge! And I'll probably still add more from this thread so thanks op

It's my "get my arse in gear" mix.

I suffer from mh issues and sometimes it's really bloody hard to get moving so this helps

Fairly cheesy but upbeat, good lyrics.

Promised You a Miracle - Simple Minds

Winterlight · 06/04/2021 07:15

Friday I’m in love - The Cure

mellongoose · 06/04/2021 07:17

Rock steady by Aretha Franklin.
I feel love by Donna Summer
California Love by Tupac
Isn't she lovely by Stevie Wonder

JWrecks · 06/04/2021 10:08

Speaking of Rapper's Delight, one of the most uplifting things I know of is the VIDEO from Soul Train. Look at these amazing people in their coordinated outfits, with their coordinated dances, and smooth moves. I will never be anywhere near as cool as even the people on the sidelines in this video. I love watching it.

SIGHHHH. That was supposed to be the direct link, not the bloody search URL. I would love an edit button.

This is the link:

Sweetener12 · 06/04/2021 10:22

Everybody by Backstreet Boys
Long Live by Taylor Swift (used it for my friend's graduation smartshow 3d video, she was in tears)
Wannabe by Spice Girls
Who Says by Selena Gomez (can't say what I love more, the song itself or its music video, so fun and lighthearted)

CheekyWeeShite · 06/04/2021 10:26

@Thumbcat

Mr Blue Sky
Same.

Also lots of ABBA.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 06/04/2021 10:59

@JWrecks

Stuck in a closet with Vanna White by Weird Al Yankovitch reminds me of spending the summer of 1988 in America.

'If I eat one more pie a la mode, I'm going to need my own zip code'

Oh yeah, they don't make 'em like that anymore !
