Putting oneself in danger

I have realised this afternoon that I could have put myself in grave danger three weeks ago. I answered a local ad which mentioned a small Victorian chair. I enjoy upholstery and was lucky enough to secure said chair. I had a friendly chat with the (chap?) giving the chair and discovered it was situated on the outskirts of a small village not far from me. I followed directions, drove off a B road and along a farm track until I came to a very large and empty building which, apparently, used to be a nursing home. I have to admit it was eerie and very quiet since the site is disused. I opened (as to instructions) the door of a small building to the side and the chair was sitting in the middle of the floor - I had to walk about 3 - 4 yards to reach it. I carried to my car and drove home.

It was only a few minutes ago that I realised what a chump I had been! Nobody knew where i was going that day and I had left my mobile on the car seat whilst I opened the door. If an attacker has been around they could have banged the door shut and kept me inside. No one was within shouting distance.

I am feeling very shaky and silly at the moment. Having strong coffee! The point of this post is to point out how easy it was to do something so dangerous. I didn't give it a second thought at the time. I suppose we folk who don't harm others take it for granted that no harm will come to us.

After the recent dreadful event in London I am very surprised at myself.

Please, everyone, learn from my mistake and take the greatest possible care ALWAYS.
