If you've got the contraceptive implant

It's definitely meant to be on the inside of the arm, right? I got one fitted last week & it's on the back of my arm, it still feels sore and I keep bumping it/DCs keep grabbing it by accident because it's in such an awkward place. Will it make a difference in the long term and is it anything to worry about other than it being annoying, can't find anything on Google?

Hi I had the implant years ago I had 2 and both were put on the inside of the arm. So there were no bangs or grabbing that does sound painful. If it was me I would speak to the people who put it in place and have it moved as this will be in for a few years so you don’t want to be constantly banging it. I’m not sure if it would affect how it works I don’t think so but I don’t no, bit strange they put it In the back of your arm. I had to go to the dr once as my 2nd one had got a blister over where it was healing but apart from that I didn’t have any sore or pain. So I do t think this is right.

Back of the arm is weird!!! Ive had all mine put in the inside arm, by different doctors. They carefully sit in the depression on the side before the bicep expands out if you flex. I’d complain.

It's the new guidance apparently. That's what I was told when I had my replaced in January, anyway. The HCP doing yours should have told you this.

Mine felt much more sore than usual, and seemed to take longer to heal than before. Every so often, I get a pinching sensation from it, which I didn't get with the other one.

The gp said new guidance?
It seems bloody stupid and I’d read and take these and ask for it to be moved. This says inside of your upper arm so they can update this before I’d accept anything else.

And this says why that’s the chosen site, see about page 30. They were looking for lowest risk and checking placement of nerves etc. (would want to look up a few words but the insertion instructions are very clear), seems sensible. www.fsrh.org/documents/cec-ceu-guidance-implants-feb-2014/2fsrh-guideline-progestogen-only-implant-feb-2021.pdf#page42

See usually I'd have asked but the nurse who put it in was a bit blunt, I'd told her that the numbing injection hadn't had any effect and she basically said 'oh well' and did it anyway.
I think I'll call the surgery to double check, will update with what they say! Thank for the replies

When I had mine replaced I was told the guidance had changed in placement. It is now towards the back of the arm. Something to do with there being less movement overtime and tissue adherence. I fine it less noticeable at the back of the arm personally.

I’d complain about the anaesthetic not taking, the nurse needs reprimanding for that.
