Weird post this morning...

Today I've had 6 envelopes delivered to my address, for a name that I've never seen before.

One feels like a school eraser, one a single biro, and the envelopes on two are quite battered - one appears to be a single sheet of coloured stickers, and one is three padded envelopes.

No return addresses on the parcels. I've lived here for 8 years and never seen the address before. There's also a letter for next door for the same person.

I'm presuming it's sadly going to be someone testing a stolen credit card, or something similar?

Our address isn't the type that you could accidentally type, it's got some stupidly-spelt words in it.

All from the same place? Have you looked for the name online? How odd!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 01/04/2021 10:57

Yeah, the name belongs to a member of a European Olympic Team in the 60s Confused There's no suggestion he lives anywhere near here, or even in England.

The return addresses look like they're from small office supplies businesses, but not the same one.

I just can't make sense of it! I've managed to slide one invoice out of a broken envelope, but it just says the item that's in the package, it's got no payment details or order information on it.

First check nextdoor.
Then I'd call or email the invoice person, ask if they got the address wrong.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 01/04/2021 11:01

Yes I’d contact any of the suppliers.

How very odd. I would check your bank accounts/CC accounts just in case.
There is a scam using Amazon, called brushing. Companies send out unordered goods (small value) to genuine addresses/verifiable Amazon accounts in order to be able to leave feedback/ratings for themselves.
Are the sellers Amazon sellers? (Many small businesses use them as a platform, often send things in their own or unmarked packaging).
It's usually Chinese companies though, not stationers in Aldershot or wherever Smile

Just remember what the date today is.
Could the name be a clue?

CentBoppers · 01/04/2021 12:25

As @Whythesadface has suggested, maybe an April Fool?

nirvanaviolet · 01/04/2021 12:35

I can only assume a strange April fools joke?

Gothichouse40 · 01/04/2021 12:39

It's a well known scam, there was something on Rip Off Britain about this type of thing. Have a look on their website as it will have information on what to do. If you don't know Rip Off Britain, it's the consumer programme with Gloria Hunniford. Check any online accounts you have especially Amazon and check your online bank accts, credit cards etc. Keep an eye on your mail. Unfortunately, I cannot remember all the details which is why Im directing you to said website.

Rip off Britain, Series 11, Episode 5. If you can find it to watch.
