Universal credit and statutory maternity pay

I will only be receiving statutory maternity pay soon and after the 6 weeks of 90% pay I won't be able to afford to stay off work living on just £150 pw. So can I claim UC as well just while I'm on the £150pw section? My husband earns about £27k per year and we already have 1 child who's in nursery, won't get free hours until January though. I'm desperate to have more time off with my baby but I can't see how to make ends meet? Internet searches are confusing me.
Anyone with any experience? I don't currently claim any benefits so a bit clueless where to start.

And if anyone is wondering I can afford 2 children when I'm working.

Thank you in advance.

Check calculators like turn2us, my DH earns about 25k and we aren't entitled with the one child until my mat pay stops, we re homeowners so I believe that makes a difference.

Elsewhere you say you work in the NHS. Are you not eligible for the occupational maternity pay?

You say you're not claiming any benefits at all - you can claim child benefit for a start. I think that will get you an extra £150 per month, and it looks like you're eligible.

You won't need to pay for nursery for the older child whilst on mat leave so that will be a big saving

Try www.entitledto.co.uk to work out what you could claim - there is a section where you can put in that you are employed but on statutory mat leave. I think, as long as you have under £6k savings you will definitely be entitled to child benefit and possibly UC too, depending on the exact circumstances (e.g. if you rent or own your home)

I am in the same position in that I’m due to go on mat leave, my partner earns £28k and looking at the entitlement calculations we would be entitled to circa £6/700 while I’m stat maternity leave.

We do rent our home if that makes a difference. My daughter is already entitled to the 30hrs so have limited childcare costs also.

We part own our home, I do work in the nhs but not for a trust so I'm not entitled to the standard nhs maternity package. I'm having a hard time getting over that. We don't really have savings unless you count what we have paid off from our mortgage. I have used a couple of the benefit calculator sites but they have all come up with different outcomes?

I unfortunately can't take my child out of nursery as they won't be able to hold his place and then when I return to work I will have no child care.

I was curious to see if anyone else had found themselves in a similar position?

And to add I do get child benefit for my first and will claim that for the 2nd too. Forgot about that one!
