Unfriendly teacher

My child is in year 1 and the whole Term has come to an end, but his teacher still seems unfriendly and unapproachable.I have also had a meeting with her in the past which went ok.But, I do not find her welcoming. For eg, in the morning she will open the classroom door and turn her back, without saying hello ! Everytime you want to talk to her she makes herself appear busy or will just quickly walk past. My child has no problem with her and Infact likes her. But, it is a big difference for me and other parents from the teacher we had in reception who was extremely friendly, approachable and passionate about not only her work but building parent teacher relationships/ sense of community. And, the thing that bugs me even more is that I am the parent class rep, in my child’s current class 🤦🏻‍♀️

Why?

Don’t you think a teacher would scream in your face.
Most of the parents were outside wondering what the Hell was going on.
From what I could make out she was saying that was the homework set and that is what he had to do.

no, I don’t think a teacher would literally scream right in your face so loud you have saliva dripping down your face

Couldn't care less, the teacher isn't there to be mates with me.
There is one parent who hogs DS2's class teacher to the point we all have to wait longer for our children to be sent out as she's stood there bending the teacher's ear, no one else does it.

We are not letting parents on site unless a meeting is arranged. Then they enter via one door and wait outside until let in.
Staff are socially distancing and limiting contact still.

We have specifically asked parents not to speak to staff at the classroom door due to covid restrictions-they can email/ring if there is a message or problem.

I used to get the most time consuming morning updates from some mums at the door when I taught Year 1 (I never had this from any dads). Things like what sort of night sleep they had, whether they have done a poo that morning or not, that they only ate half their breakfast....

My intention in saying that I am the class representative is that I have to act all harmonious and bring all the parents together, organise gatherings and class gifts for the teacher I am not very keen on.I don’t expect any special chats, just a simple hello and have a good day. I have noticed that she is selectively social too.I would go above and beyond if I like someone. It comes straight from my heart. But here I feel like I have to just do things as a rep, half heartedly just for the sake of doing it.I thought of removing myself as a parent rep, but that again may offend the already not so friendly teacher.I do not want to cause any unnecessary rift.
I think most of you are right I should just leave it alone. My child is happy, that is all that matters.

“My intention in saying that I am the class representative is that I have to act all harmonious and bring all the parents together, organise gatherings and class gifts for the teacher I am not very keen on.”

Just resign. “Class rep” is a total non job, especially now (what gatherings?!), but if it sticks in your craw that much to buy a voucher and a bunch of flowers for someone who’s looked after your child for a year and done a good job of it, just don’t. Someone else will do it. Or not - my children’s school doesn’t have class reps. Sky still where it should be.

Survivingontea · 30/03/2021 23:36

@Hoppythehippo I did mention why I do not want to resign. And here in South Australia, it isn’t too bad. There have been no covid cases for long now.And when we did it was only a few.And at the most we had total lockdown only for a month or so.So the covid restrictions are minimal. We are lucky that way !

Her job is to educate your child not be your friend

WeAllHaveWings · 31/03/2021 00:14

If you have something you need to talk about arrange an appointment.

If not let her get on with her job.

BackforGood · 31/03/2021 00:18

Your child likes her and assuming they are learning well, I’d leave the teacher to do their job.

Her job is to educate your child not be your friend

I find it really weird that you think that she ought to be friends with you. Hmm

As for "Everytime you want to talk to her she makes herself appear busy or will just quickly walk past."......... Just one tiny little thought, but here's an idea to consider...... maybe she is busy ?

Bythemillpond · 31/03/2021 00:19

Well she did. She was asked to leave after a term and a half.

Survivingontea · 31/03/2021 00:37

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows
Who said I want to be friends.I am talking about basic etiquettes. And she was never chased, to be left alone.I posted to see what everyone had to say, and if anyone else had experienced something similar and how did they go about it.

Thank you all for your opinions re my query. Some stories made me giggle too 🤭 I still feel that she could stop avoiding parents, but I feel less worse being avoided now Grin It’s just that I think maybe I had high expectations as the previous teacher had set the bar too high.
