Pill Without Break

Hi everyone.
I'm sick of having periods. Well, not the periods themselves as I've always been very lucky and they don't give me any trouble. I'm sick and tired of trying to make my menstrual cup work, though. I've got to the point where I can be arsed anymore, and can't be arsed with periods.
I'm 42 and, when I started using the pill all those years ago, the thinking was the 7 day break was necessary. I believe that is no longer the case.
I'm just after experiences, really. If you use the pill continuously, have you ever had any issues, or can I look forward to being period free for the rest of my life? Grin
Thanks.

I’ve taken Femodene for just under twenty years, and only have the hormone withdrawal bleed (it’s not a period) once a year, if even. Zero issues. I don’t know how women cope with heavy, painful periods every three weeks, it’s barbaric and there’s no need for it. The male who invented the pill thought that women would go insane without a bleed, so created a week ‘break’ to un-mental us 😑 nah.

(I’m childfree and don’t want my uterus at all)

When on the pill you don't have periods, it's a withdrawal bleed and not the same thing. Teen DD takes Dianette for PCOS. She takes continuously as the whole point is to regulate her hormones. If you have a break it defeats the object. However not all GP's understand this, she went to a new GP and explained what she had been told previously and he said but it would still be good to have a break. Advice ignored, she takes it back to back.

Thanks everyone.
I think I'm going to give it a try. I must admit, one of the reasons I haven't done it before is because I was worried about my body losing a 'natural rhythm'. Well, it isn't natural and it's an inconvenience so bugger it.
Thanks again. It's always valuable to get some insight into the experiences of others.

This is quite an interesting on the history of the break www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jan/23/medical-advice-pill-pope-bleeds-women
I have done a year and a half back to back but found I got consistent breakthrough bleeding every few months which was really annoying in its unpredictability (for those saying the bleed is your body withdrawing from the hormones on your break - can anyone explain why breakthrough bleeding happens??)
Now I take 3 months in a row to avoid this.
The only thing I'd say OP is that last time I went to the GP they mentioned that in a few years I might want to look at another form of hormonal contraception as the risk of dvt with the pill increases with age (I'm mid 30s). So also if you don't want periods at all it might be worth a chat with GP about that and whether eg the implant might be better?
Good luck and enjoy your period free existence! Grin

I tried but on pack 3 I get spotting then breakthrough bleeding, now I do two packs then a break

agapanthus1979 · 31/03/2021 08:34

Perhaps three months and than a break, then.
I suppose it's different for everyone, so I'll just go with the flow (as it were Grin) and see what happens.
@Cavagirl the last time I went to the GP they said about changing contraception, but I'm happy with the pill and have no desire to experiment with something else at my age. He was happy with that.

I've been doing it for years... i usually stop to have a period maybe every 5/6 months... but reading more about it I dont think it matters.

I think people are a bit confused here- the mini pill (Cezarette etc) you normally take every single day without a break anyway. I’ve taken it for 6 years. Never had a period apart from some initial breakthrough bleeding. Fabulous. I also take it alongside my HRT with no issues (oestrogel and utrogestan).

The combined pill (the one that contains oestrogen) is the one where they used to say you needed a break every month. You don’t. You can take it continuously too. Although most GPS etc seem to recommend having a break every 3 packs otherwise some people will get breakthrough bleeding and that’s quite annoying (this happened to me when I tried it years ago).
