Does anyone get PMS AFTER the period??

Honestly it's getting me really down now so when I start my period I feel ok but the days leading on from that and up to ovulation are awful, I am like a nervous anxious wreck, I feel low and depressed and cranky.
Yet after ovulation and the lead up to my period I feel happy, calm, excited for life again and just me.

What is this? What can I do to help myself? I'm 27 and I have three smallish kids. I'm pretty sure it only got like this after I had kids. I've never ever been on birth control and I'm just not sure what to do. All I do know is I hate feeling like this for two weeks of a month.

I get anxiety after my period. It depends what I am dealing with at the time, if I have a lot on, my default response is anxiety. I am trying to see this as productive (a small amount of anxiety is healthy).

I know that post ovulation progesterone increases which is the calming hormone.

It might be that in the pre ovulation phase because progesterone is low and oestrogen has not yet peaked so its easier to get cranky.

Do you take a multivitamin? I've also tried the Cycle Diet with varying degrees of success in the past-there is a website and it has some suggestions of what to eat in different phases of the month.

@BoomTastic1 Hi I haven't heard of that cycle diet before I'll look into it, today I woke up feeling almost euphoric really excited and happy again and just me so I'm guessing I ovulated yesterday.
It's really bizarre but I relate to what you experience after the period. I do take high strength vitamin D but I'm also going to try again vitamin b6 and some magnesium Glycinate I heard that's good.

What annoys me is because I felt so shit yesterday but feel so good today i then set myself off with anxiety thinking well how do you go from one extreme to the next?
but I'm not, it's just I spend so long feeling down when I do feel myself again it's like I almost forget this feeling and it feels "new" again. Really weird.

Wow...DH and I were discussing this just last week, that the P in PMT should stand for Post in Dds case.
She is 13, started her periods and we said that she is visibly more anxious afterwards (she has SN and is non verbal so cannot express it herself, this is just from us observing her behaviour).
Obviously it’s early days for her but interesting to see that this does exist for some.

I used to get 2 weeks of terrible PMS before during & after my period.
Then I took Microgynon but still had periods with a few days of PMS which interfered with work & actually put my life at risk as I had bad suicidal thoughts.

At 36 my dr refused to give me any more Microgynon as I was older & overweight so he prescribed Cerazette- so I just don't have periods.
It's been a revelation! The PMS has gone.
Obviously you have to take it at exactly the same time every day or you get a bleed, but that's fine.
I just wish I'd used it a lot sooner.

@Tehmina23 I'm going to look into this as we defo do not want any more children so it could actually be good for me to try? I'll speak to my GP.

@ShoesOnFirstThenCar It's crazy isn't it. I googled it and it said it's not recognised how PMs is but there is such cases of Post menstrual syndrome instead of Pre, my daughter has adhd and possible autism so it'll be something I try and delve into before she starts periods incase her hormones combined with her conditions really effect her more.

Yes I get seriously low mood for about 3 days leading up to ovulation. I’m now finding ovulation pains and symptoms cause me more issues than my actual period

@stressbandit Dd has autism and severe learning difficulties so it’s nigh on impossible to explain to her. I had a chat with the GP a while ago before she started and we agreed to put her on the mini pill, the hormones are certainly calmer for her but periods haven’t stopped yet.

It will certainly help your DD that you are aware it could affect her.
