Anyone requested a second opinion from an NHS consultant ?

Over the last 2 years I've had some worrying cardiac symptoms which have quite severely impacted my everyday life. Had a few investigations via gp which while not entirely normal weren't deemed clinically significant. Eventually gp referred me to a cardiologist who I saw last year. It was a very short consultation, she brushed off my concerns but agreed to send me for another investigation 'for reassurance' which I had done in last july. A couple of weeks later I received a very perfunctory letter from her stating that the test was normal and she didn't really know what was causing my symptoms. I've now been discharged and still no further on.
I'm 54, a very experienced HCP and previously very fit and active, can't do the things I love doing - running, cycling so becoming increasingly depressed and even thinking of taking early retirement. I don't want to make a fuss but feel like I've been dismissed as a hysterical peri menopausal woman. I want a second opinion but not sure how to do it...any advice ? I was thinking of contacting PALS to start the ball rolling.

I did for an orthopedic issue as first consultant was openly clueless though he offered to operate to “have a poke around to see what he could find”.

I went back to the gp amd asked to be referred to a specific consultant at a different hospital.

I think PALS would be a good starting point, if they’re not right then they should at least be able to offer you some guidance on where would be.

Do you have an occupational health department? Especially as you’re considering retirement it might be worth requesting assessment through them. That may give you further evidence/advice to present to your GP/other specialist should you be referred.

Thanks never thought of asking occupational health.
It's so worrying. I'm not generally a hypochondriac but it's getting me down. I've got a good idea what's causing my symptoms, I also have several risk factors. From my own research it's a condition that's actually fairly common but under diagnosed. I feel frustrated that I didn't even get the chance to bring the possibility up with her. What's worse is that I've worked with her on a professional basis and thought she was pretty competent Sad
