How much would you sell kids ride on toy for?

So got my son one of them ride on cars for his first birthday. He's just turned 2 and he's hardly used it. He's sat in it a few times but it's never been out the house or used properly as he's a bit scared of it 😂

So we are selling it. I've put it on gumtree,Facebook market and other places. We payed 200 so I've been asking for 100 or nearest offer but I don't know if I'm selling it for too much as people are offering me £35 and I think that's too small amount?!

How much would you buy it for second hand?

Second hand toys go for hardly anything. Even if they are hardly used (those cars don't get used, they will go through several children before one makes it show signs of wear).

Jayjay16: "...one of them ride on cars..."?

You won't get £100 for it. Is it possible he will use it in time? A three year old would probably appreciate the car more. If you sell it you may regret it in a year's time.

He’s probably too young for it so rather than sell it for a huge loss I’d be tempted to hang on to and try again in 6 months. My parents bought my 3YO one to drive around their garden and she loves it although her ‘driving’ is still pretty rubbish and she frequently ends up stuck in the shrubbery! At just turned 2 I don’t think she would have understood what to do tbh.

Regularsizedrudy · 29/03/2021 11:30

I think you would be very lucky to get £50 but as a buyer I would probably offer £30.

idontlikealdi · 29/03/2021 11:33

£30

BertieBotts · 29/03/2021 11:34

OK I was picturing something much smaller! I agree he is probably just too young for it, why don't you keep it?

If you really want to sell price it at £50.

People aren't going to weigh up that kind of thing new vs second hand. If you want it new you'd just buy it and if you're browsing second hand then it probably wouldn't occur to you. The kind of people who have those massive toy cars have loads of space so probably a big income and therefore aren't often shopping second hand for toys.

Itsokthanks · 29/03/2021 11:36

If he's just turned 2 he's not had chance to be interested in it yet? I'd keep it and get some use out of it then sell it. You won't get £100 for it .

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 29/03/2021 11:37

I wouldn't sell it for less than £100. People are CF's when it comes to buying toys like that.

I'd keep it aside until he's a bit bigger.

zzzebra · 29/03/2021 11:38

Agree that you won't get £100 for it.

You might have some luck at £50. But they take up a lot of space and £50 not a small amount of money so it may take a little while to sell.

Happycat1212 · 29/03/2021 11:42

My 3 year old would love that so I agree with keeping it, £35 is so cheeky But I’ve noticed people want something for nothing, I would try £80 if you do want to sell

Spied · 29/03/2021 11:47

My ds had a similar type of car that his Grandparents bought for his first Birthday.
He sat in it for about 3minutes and cried.
After allowing it to collect dust for over a year in the corner of our bedroom we decided to give it back to gps to keep in their garden for the other grandchildren to play with.
When he got to around 3years old he started absolutely loving it and it was played with for years.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/03/2021 11:50

I see kids in these in the park near us. Hold on to it, try again in 6 months

Sorry I missed a bit. I mean they're like 3ish . He's too young
MiddleParking · 29/03/2021 11:54

Do those things really cost £200 new?! Regardless, second hand £35 sounds about right. No one is going to pay £100 for a second hand toy.

EvilOnion · 29/03/2021 11:59

I agree with pp, hold on to it - those kinds of things are generally popular with 3 to 5 year olds. Before that it can be hard to understand the concept of making it move.

I wouldn't pay more than £50 for something with such limited play/lifespan tbh.

GlamGiraffe · 29/03/2021 12:02

I dont think your son is old enough for the toy yet. Hold on to it and wait. I think its more suitable for a 3 year old.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 29/03/2021 12:03

A bit of string and a thimble OP Wink

I sold one years ago I'd bought for £89. For £40 on Facebook for it. I'd put yours on for £60

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/03/2021 12:05

As above - too young at 1 anyways. Would play with it at 3yo I'd imagine.

Thatwentbadly · 29/03/2021 13:47

As a general rule toys for a 25% of the original cost.

ComDummings · 29/03/2021 13:49

For that you might get about £50 round here
