Hi there,

We are planning to move to the Guildford area and I could do with a little bit of advice, so many options and not possible to travel there at the moment which makes things trickier.

We are looking for houses in Guildford and outskirts but there is nothing really, we need a 5 bed house. We would love a place that offers a balance between amenities (restaurants, shops, things to do with kids) and places where we can go for walks, we have two children and need a friendly community where we can make new friends.

Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? We like Guildford since it looks pretty, loads of amenities, safe and good schooling around for the little ones.

Hubby needs to be reasonable distance from Heathrow and London.

Any nice villages (not too tinny) around Guildford that it is worth looking into? we looked into Godalming and Chobham but not a clue if they are what we are looking for. Any other locations that I am missing and it is worth looking into?

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Chobham is a weird mix of very wealthy and very deprived. The wealthy send their kids to private school, which means the local primary suffers. Plus traffic through the middle is a nightmare around school times.

@MrsFionaCharming, oh, I see. Thanks a lot!

Chobham is lovely. Some beautiful properties there, but I don’t know how often they come on to the market. The village centre used to be delightful, with pubs, independent shops and so on, but it’s a while since we lived nearby, so I don’t know how things have changed. It’s close to Woking for shopping, but I’m not a fan of Woking town centre. Hook Heath has some lovely houses too. Windlesham has great properties and is near to Bagshot, with M3 access to Heathrow. Woking has a fast train service to Waterloo.

I know you're set on Guildford so ignore this if its no use but Oxford is so beautiful and you may find some more options there too if you aren't limited by location as such?

Hi, I wondered if you were still looking? I’m selling a house in the best part of Farnham but needs work, and probably extending, it’s a wonderful lane and could be the perfect house, been in my family for 200 years sadly we need to sell now!
We have interest from developers but I do want it to go to someone who will make it beautiful and love it! Xx
