Talk to me about Fitbits

I've never used a fitness tracker but hoping one might get me walking more. What do you have? Do you recommend it? Needs be something I can get from Currys as I have a payment plan thing with them with 6 months interest free.

I have a Fitbit,I really like it . It really does make me mindful about how lazy I can be!! The data is then transferred to my phone and it is really interesting...especially the sleep cycles ! I have the evidence that my 15 month old grandchild deprived me of a lot of sleep a few days ago 😂

Mine is a fitbit charge 2. Older version now as new ones are out.
Originally bought it to track sleep, but quickly started to track steps.
We do a daily challenge at work to see who walks the most but not every day, and if we are on the weekend with do a weekend challenge.

I credit my Fitbit with helping me lose 5.5st and keeping it off for 3.5yrs!!! I enter food eaten too x it does all sorts of helpful, encouraging things. If you get some kind of tracker but don't get on with it, you can recoup money selling on ebay.

Depends what you want it for; I had one that broke and was happy not to have another one, but got given one for Christmas just gone, so I do use it. Though tbh if it broke then I probably wouldn't bother buying a new one:

  • because I can track steps on my phone.
  • I already use strava to track walks, runs and bike rides. I prefer tracking my walks in terms of km rather than steps, and they have monthly challenges that I find quite motivating. Plus it's free.
  • I don't think the heart rate monitor is particularly accurate; if you leave it lying around on it's side or put it in your pocket, then it will say your heart rate is anything from 70 - 130 (this is a common problem with fitbits according to Google).
  • Ditto not being 100% accurate with the step count; if I go on an hours bike ride for example, it thinks I've done 4,000 steps (another common problem).
  • this new one gives me a bit of a rash if I wear it overnight, so I can't really use it to track my sleep (and again, another common problem, wasn't a problem with my old fitbit though).

I've got the Ionic and love it, very sleek looking. If I go cycling I'll link it to Strava. The battery life is around five days and I also use it as an alarm clock

Calls and texts come in via it too. I also find it quite interesting looking at my sleep stats

I recently purchased a charge 4 and it was pretty good but the focus was too much on steps for me. The integration with my fitness Pal and Strava is good if you use those. The app was a pain I had to keep restarting my android phone to get it to sync. Also when I was outdoors it was really difficult to check the screen in sunlight for stats.

As I am doing the Les mills stuff I have now got the polar ignite as it has all their programs as sports profiles and really like it. Battery life not so good but the screen is large and in colour. The sleep stats are good and recommends you not exercising if you have been doing a lot and your sleep poor. It can also give exercise recommendations.

I hear Garmin are the best for running.
