What food will our children reminisce about?

Inspired by the thread in AIBU about what food we remember from our childhood that you no longer get, what food do you think our children will reminisce about in 30-50 years time?

Will stuffed crust pizzas still be a thing in 2051? Salted caramel still everywhere? What about sriracha? Will they still wax lyrical about angel delight?

I'm not so good at this future gazing stuff, I really liked Tab Clear! So I'm interested in what others think will be gone or fondly remembered Smile

Pesto? Very popular!
I think those with dietary requirements will be shocked at how few options there were. Give Veganism, gluten free etc 20 years.
I imagine all drinks with sugar - that’s already a thing of the past!
I imagine sweets will face sugar reductions soon too.
Also a lot of restaurants - frankie and benny’s, pizza express, prezzo etc.

Does anyone remember green ketchup?

I wonder how much longer Frubes and Cheesestrings will be around for, what will everyone trying to do away with plastic.

queentsumtsum · 28/03/2021 12:20

@intheenddoesitreallymatter I remember coming across pesto for the first time! A friend of mine was vegetarian and would make pasta with pesto which seemed very exotic to me

@Fivemoreminutes1 yeah, all the plastic wrapped stuff and maybe also the very processed food. Sometimes I wonder if bacon will survive!

Frubes were mu first thought.

All yoghurt comes in plastic containers ofc, but that won't stop some thunberger campaigning against lunchbox snacks.

PuddingRice · 28/03/2021 12:59

@intheenddoesitreallymatter I remember green ketchup. But I don't think I ever had it so couldn't comment further.

I think cereals will get a major overhaul because of the sugar content and the fact a 30g portion basically makes you hungrier than not eating at all.

AdaColeman · 28/03/2021 13:15

Smoked and barbecued food, along with preserved meats such as ham & salami.
The dairy industry will be greatly curtailed, cheese will be a rare and extremely expensive delight.

Colin the caterpillar cake. The Arctic roll of the millennium :)

Unicorn & Dinosaur Jammie Dodgers

queentsumtsum · 28/03/2021 18:52

@DogsAreShit but frubes are so useful I wonder if there will be alternative packaging developed?

@PuddingRice gosh yeah cereals. I have no idea what teenagers will eat in the evenings though if they can stuff themselves full of nutritionally vacant cereal (or is that just my teenagers who seem to eat cereal all evening?)

@AdaColeman I guess if we see an increase in veganism too then this will lead to a lot less availability of all those things. I've only just discovered a goat's cheese I like!

@derekthe1adyhamster NOOOOOO NOT COLIN (confession - I've never eaten a Colin the Caterpillar)

@35andThriving what are unicorn and dinosaur jammies dodgers???? Am I missing out here?

Plastic bags are useful too but that hasn't deterred the fucking thunbergers.

35andThriving · 28/03/2021 20:30

There are just jammie dodgers with a picture of a dinosaur or a unicorn in the middle, instead of the usual heart shape. I just reckon little kids with remember them vaguely/ fondly in future.
