I think he’s just trying to wind me up now
Can you look at these photos- obviously not finished, but it looks so slapdash
I’ve got half the house in gloss, half in Matt
He told me on Wed it would be done on Sat, he must mean another week, there is loads to do.
He comes for a couple of hours, then buggers off.
Just one guy
He’s spent 3 days fixing something he broke, which I didn’t ask him to do

Wow. That is bad. I’d tell him to jog on and find somebody to do it properly.

WhatMattersMost · 27/03/2021 15:42

That's absolutely shocking, OP. Cut your losses; he's not going to do a sudden about-turn.

Redact · 27/03/2021 15:59

That's awful, I could do a better job than that. I'd tell him not to come back and get a professional company in to sort out his shoddy work and complete your painting, they will probably need to start from scratch. Have you handed over any money to him?

ohidoliketobe · 27/03/2021 16:03

As the daughter of a painter and decorator, I'm traumatised!

Obviously depends where you are, but certainly where I am in the NW it's still too cold to really be doing external painting, ideally needs to be over 10 degrees for as long as the paint takes to dry.

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 16:07

Yes he’s been paid, not since Christmas though, cos he’s done about 4 days since then.
He started off well, everything was sanded with power sander, undercoat on, he replaced some barge boards

dotcombubble · 27/03/2021 16:08

He didn't do that with a paintbrush surely.

sunnysidegold · 27/03/2021 16:11

Oh this isn't good op. I came on to say our painter did our exterior and it took about three months because of the weather and doing other little one day jobs. But it was the walls and all the windows and doors so it was a big job for one man on his own.It was really frustrating having it drag on but he did do a good job that we were very happy with. This looks so slapdash. I'm afraid you may have to get another person to do it.

LittleBearPad · 27/03/2021 16:13

Sack him

feellikeanalien · 27/03/2021 16:15

Late DP was a painter and decorator. He would have been horrified. Our house looked a bit like that when we moved in but it had been done by the previous occupants themselves.

Bythemillpond · 27/03/2021 16:32

I have painted the exterior of my first house whilst still in my teens with just a diy manual for guidance and it was better than that

CatherinedeBourgh · 27/03/2021 17:22

Presumably he hasn’t done the white bits yet and will usethose to get a clean line?

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 17:31

I would hope so, but he’s put a good inch of black on the white which he will have to go over more than once, and the white isn’t sanded down yet.
He’s got bits everywhere that aren’t finished , all different colours, gloss and Matt
I’ve been waiting for him to make good but there’s no progress, he’s done 2 half days this week.

Bythemillpond · 27/03/2021 21:21

Unfortunately white paint won’t cover the black paint. He needs to sand and undercoat to get rid of the black and the ridge the black paint will leave

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 21:28

I don’t know what he’s thinking Confused

It’s so bad it’s almost laughable

JellyBabiesFan · 27/03/2021 21:29

Do they have advanced Parkinsons?

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 21:32

It’s actually crossed my mind that he might have some memory issues. He’s not young
I’ve asked a couple of different times about certain things which haven’t been fixed

OP posts:
Veuvestar · 28/03/2021 12:34

He took advantage of the scaffold that was up for the roofers, now I’m worried we need new scaffold for him to fix the higher bits, despite me asking again and again if he needed their scaffold for a few extra days

I think I might need to start again

OP posts:
Veuvestar · 29/03/2021 14:05

I’m really mad now
He is just taking the piss
My roofer just told me he’s working round the corner, so excuses about Covid are bollocks and he’s quoted a woman twice the price of mine.
I was feeling sorry for him thinking he was forgetful and worried about Covid and it’s bollocks
