Bathing with an very active / wriggly baby

I feel a bit stupid asking this but can anyone help find a solution to help me get in and out of the bath more easily with my 9 month old? Basically we’ve been having a bath together nearly everyday since she was born and it’s lovely - she loves it - I get some skin to skin with her and a chance to relax but we have quite a small high sided bath and it’s tricky to get out of while holding her. What I’ve been doing is having a travel cot by the side of the bath and lifting her out into it (DP not always available at bath time to help). However recently she’s started standing up and the travel cot is not very deep - I’m always terrified she’s going to launch herself over the side into the water and hurt herself the moment I stand to get up. She sits now but still a bit wobbly so not keen to leave her in the water while I get out. She hates bath seats and there’s not much room for one anyway when I’m in too. Is this a common problem and if so what do other people do to in this odd in between stage of mobility?

This might be a really stupid suggestion but is there a reason you can’t put a pile of towels on the floor and lift her out on to them? Then you step out and throw a towel/dressing gown on and then wrap her up etc?

valentinoandme · 27/03/2021 13:39

Can't you just lift her out and sit her on a towel on the floor? If the bathroom door's shut, she can't go anywhere.

Or unplug bath as you step out?

Honestly I think if you can't do it safely don't do it until she is older and can sit still while you get out.
Meantime just give her a bath in a bath seat and get her used to that.
Its not worth risking a serious injury when there's lots of other times you can play with her and cuddle her.

imalmostthere · 27/03/2021 14:03

Time for a bath Seat or separate baths I think. From a safety aspect I wouldn't continue to risk it x

I used to pull the plug out before I got out. When there was only a tiny bit of water in the bath, I'd get out and leave DD splashing in the last little bit. Can your DD sit unaided and play in the empty bath whilst you get out?

I am another one saying if you don't feel safe then don't do it. It is such a slippery situation with a risk with water and hard surfaces in the bath. I never really bathed with mine found it uncomfortable, cold and unsafe.

Bath seat. Or empty to a few inches levae her in there whislt drying and watching her. Obv never leaving the room. Then when your dry and toweled or dressed get her out.

It's no different to when ds could sit and splash or stand I sit on loo seat and watch or brush my teeth etc.

It's not like your leaving her unattended.

Thank you so much! So embarrassed I didn’t think of towels on the floor. I’ll also get one of those tumble mats as our bathroom floor is not the nicest - its cold hard and needs an update. Also need to put locks on floor level bathroom cabinets as she’ll be in there quick as anything!

Definitely don’t feel stupid OP! I delayed going to the supermarket for ages after I had DS because I honestly couldn’t figure out how to shop with a tiny baby Grin

CheekyWeeShite · 27/03/2021 16:44

Foam floor tiles are good as they’re good padding (very hard floors here) and won’t be damaged if they get wet. Couple on the floor, towel on top, job done :)

JustSleepAlready · 27/03/2021 17:04

Just be wary if you put her on the floor if your radiator is on - can she wriggle over to it? Just a thought. I’d favour pulling the plug whilst in the bath.

PurpleMustang · 27/03/2021 17:25

I'd maybe put a bumboo seat or a rocker with a towel already in it, in the bathroom beforehand

PurpleMustang · 27/03/2021 17:29

Or get a changing mat just for the bathroom, let the water out while in it. When the water is gone, stand up yourself, lay the changing mat in bottom of the bath. Wrap her in a towel, lay her on the mat in the now empty bath, get out yourself.
