Share your daily routine with me...

Over the years I've got out of having any routines...and I mean any.

This means my life is now a bit more chaotic and unmanaged than I would like.

I've recently started working 9-5 at home and so have the start of a routine in that I get up, get dressed and am logged on for 9am.

I want to build on this to get much more done in the week in terms of basic self care, chores and such like.

It would be really helpful to see other people's daily/weekly routines (ideally in some detail) as I've just lost sight of what 'normal' is now...

What does your day look like? What do you do before work in the morning? At lunchtime? After work?

For me the biggest things that have helped are always going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time and always eating my meals at the same/similar times. My routine has to be quite flexible around my commitments and I don't have a 9 to 5 job. But I do try and eat my meals and sleep at the same times every day.

Mostly boring unless something interesting happens.

Wake up. May brush my teeth. Stretch and dance, run (treadmill). Breakfast (usually at 9 am). (Sometimes breakfast before exercise). Will brush teeth if not done already. Shower. Get dressed.

Down to the office. Work. Any home errands. Anything can happen here including MN if I'm not on hiatus.

Lunch (usually between 1 pm and 2.30 pm). More work. More home chores/errands if needed. Possible snacks (usually between 3.30 and 5 pm). Browsing around if bored. May watch a random video or two or ten. More of anything can happen here.

Dinner. Possible walk or run on the treadmill again if I have the energy. Shower or a quick clean and change. Lounge till bedtime. Go to bed and repeat.

This is my main routine but some days, I can't be bothered to get out of bed. So I browse, eat and do nothing.

whenthebellsring · 27/03/2021 12:59

Forgot to add: Dinner is 7/7.30 pm. Bed is anytime but usually between 9 and 10pm.

5:30/6:30 wake up - I never set an alarm, I am just a naturally early waker.
Have a bath, get dressed.
7:00 feed pets, empty dishwasher, make kids lunches, get kids breakfast, sort washing.
8:00 start work (10 min walk or 2 min drive)
4:00 finish work
Walk dog, make dinner, play with kids, do baths and bedtime.
Usually go to bed around 10.

wheresmymojo · 27/03/2021 18:57

So first obvious thing is I need to get up earlier...

Not much of a morning person but I could really do with getting up at 7am I think to get some stuff (exercise/a couple of chores) done before work...

Think I will work on this first...

So maybe

7-7.15am: Get dressed

7.15am - 7.45: Walk/jog

7.45-8.30: Shower, dress again, makeup, cup of tea

8.30-9.00: 1-2 chores

Seems like such a lot to fit in!

@wheresmymojo if you aren’t a morning person I’d do these things in the evening instead. I hate mornings, if I could sleep until 10 mins before work I would!

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 27/03/2021 20:01

@wheresmymojo yes... getting up early definitely helps to get things done.... I do find it hard but it really does my mental health a lot of good to get outside for a bit before the rest of the day starts...if I get moving early it’s like a big of positive momentum gets going- whereas the days I don’t manage that the rest of the day just feels bleurgh and a real struggle.

kayakingmum · 27/03/2021 20:05

I read an article a while ago that recommended doing cognitive work in the morning, exercise in the afternoon and creative stuff in the evening.
I structure my day around sleep times and eating and drinking. I like to sleep 11:00pm - 7:00am and try to piggy back chores onto other things e.g loading dish washer while I make my bed time hot chocolate or tidy around while the coffee is brewing.

This makes a lot of sense. I definitely want to make more use of 'down time' like waiting for the kettle to boil.

Pre covid and again in a few weeks Dependent on day of week!

5am get up and coffee.
5.30am drive ds to swimming/ I walk/ read news etc
7.45am get home/ make lunches/ dress for work
8.20am leave house for work/college
4.30pm home from work/ college
5pm make dinner/ tidy kitchen/ do washing
7pm take ds back to swimming/walk for me

On non swim mornings I'm up naturally by 7 and do coffee/washing/ read news

On non swimming evenings at 7pm I watch tv or read or MN!

Weekends I have no routine beyond his swimming or if he's competing.

Do my food shop mom eve and fri am as he swims.
Wash bedding Sunday's.

I think I have quite a fixed routine as we need it but I'm not fixated on having one. Lockdown I've been a nightmare for not being motivated but luckily I've still WOH!
