What would you like to be served?

Couple of girlfriends coming over on Good Friday for my birthday to sit in the garden. Only 4 of us in total and we’ll be under the gazebo and with the patio heater on as it’s not looking good weather wise.

I imagine a lot of Prosecco and various cocktails will be consumed but what should I serve for food? I love hosting but feel totally out of practice!

We’ll have the standard nibbles to start and then I suspect DP has ordered some sort of cake. I was thinking a BBQ but it’s a lot of hassle and at the other end of the garden to where the gazebo is so difficult to cook and chat. Then I thought about Tesco finest pizzas and garlic bread but is that a bit of a cop out? Any ideas?

I'm doing this with some friends too. We're having a sort of afternoon tea and all bringing stuff. Quiches, hummus and veggies, crsips, scones with jam and cream, cake, etc... and gin of course!

Order a take away. Make it easy

Queenoftheashes · 26/03/2021 18:26

Pizza, garlic bread and crisps would do me.

I’d go for a Buffett - people can pick at it all night

Pasta Salad
Breadsticks
Sips
Cheese
Crackers
Nice bread
Crisps
Olives
Strawberries/fruit sticks
You don’t have to do loadsl

At this point in things I would be happy with absolutely anything tbh as long as I don't have to cook it!

I would probably try and use the bbq but for something low and slow like a brisket, Greek lamb shoulder, pulled pork or beer can chicken.

So much easier than faffing about with burgers and sausages etc.

FindingMeno · 26/03/2021 18:32

Ready cooked roast chicken thighs, salad, coleslaw, cheese and crackers.

mamaduckbone · 26/03/2021 18:32

I'd do something one pot and easy like chilli or pulled pork, that you can prepare and leave until you want it.

I like the idea of a picky buffet, maybe with something hot like a chilli as well. I’m a bit worried about people getting cold so something hot could be good

We've got friends coming over on Monday evening after work. Was going to do pizza but one of them is Gluten free so decided to do chilli, rice and nachos instead so we can all have the same.

Isn’t this thread glorious!! Having people round!! It’s so exciting!!

Bluewavescrashing · 26/03/2021 19:51

Bite sized buffet type snacks.

Sausage rolls, crisps, posh smoked salmon canapé things, dips, etc.

Can I come please? 😊

littlewhitestar · 26/03/2021 20:17

If you have outside power or can run an extension lead, raclette is a good alternative to a BBQ that involves little prep.

I would like a hot chocolate cocktail to go with the cake, please.

FizzyPink · 26/03/2021 21:59

Gosh I’d completely forgotten about things like blinis. Nachos sound good as well. It may turn into an all day grazing event Grin

Chili, jacket potatoes, rice, a good green salad with avocado, dips and nachos, cheeseboard and whatever other cold bits you fancy. Chocolate fondue, fruit, marshmallows and ice cream for pud.

aintnocoffeebigenough · 27/03/2021 06:49

I’d agree something warm OP. When I’m at an outdoor event starting to get a bit meh because I’m cold some hot food always sorts me out. I like the idea of chilli, or some roast chicken with lots of sides - flatbreads, coleslaw, wedges etc Smile Have a lovely time!
