How do you find out what's on TV?

Just that, really. In the past people would look at the TV page in the newspapers or get the Radio Times/TV Times. I know most people watch Netflix etc more than terrestrial television, but if let's say you were out of the house and wondered what was on regular TV that night, what would you do?

Look at the Sky go app on my phone.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 26/03/2021 15:12

I no longer worry what's on at any particular time, because if I miss something I know I can always watch it on catch-up (whether that's iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 or whatever.

Ah going out though, remember that? Grin

RaininSummer · 26/03/2021 15:14

Online TV guide. Google it as I can't do links.

HollowTalk · 26/03/2021 15:15

I know, I'd love to go out!

I know you don't have to worry about watching it at the set time, but how do you know it exists, that's what I mean. So would you just flick through iPlayer or whatever, or would you find out in advance what's on?

I was just thinking today how much this has changed our lives. For instance my mum reads the TV guide in the newspaper every day. I only read the news online. I do read The Guardian online usually end up regretting that but would never look at the TV page there.

Social media, friends and TV trailers for me in terms of how I know it exists! We do get a Saturday paper and I’ll often skim what’s on that coming week or what’s recommended.

PracticallyFloored · 26/03/2021 15:24

This is a really good question, I hope someone has the answer! I keep missing new series of my favourite shows because I have no idea they're airing. I occasionally read the guardian what's on tv thing, but I don't check anything regularly.

PracticallyFloored · 26/03/2021 15:26

I don't watch TV much, so don't see trailers. Occasionally see something on social media but it's hit and miss.

megletthesecond · 26/03/2021 15:29

I hit the "guide" button on my telly. I watch mainly BBC1,2 and 4.
And I get a Sunday paper and look through the the schedules.

crazycatlady20 · 26/03/2021 15:31

a tv guide app on my phone.

dotdashdashdash · 26/03/2021 15:33

how do you know it exists, that's what I mean

People chatting on Facebook about what they've watched mainly. Or on here. There are a few shows I like where I'll actively look out for their next series starting.

Otherwise we just browse netflix etc. We don't have a TV plugged in to an aerial.

Frazzled2207 · 26/03/2021 15:35

I just google TV guide
However we have all but stopped watching tv. Stream everything. Only exception is new series of Line of Duty and occasionally the news.

crazycatlady20 · 26/03/2021 15:37

yeah I was going to say, I don't frequently browse the guide. it's only if someone mentions it, social media or I happen to catch an ad. I mainly watch things on catch up tho as I never remember to tune in at the right time.

Billandben444 · 26/03/2021 15:38

I look through the guide that comes with the Sunday papers and record anything during the week that appeals. On the day, I'll browse down the guide on the TV and then usually end up watching something pre-recorded. We don't have Netflix, etc and are of a certain age!

minniemoocher · 26/03/2021 15:50

Sky TV guide page

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 26/03/2021 15:52

Radio Times web page. At Christmas, the large Radio Times Christmas issue.

WheeshtTheNoo · 26/03/2021 15:56

Series link on Sky will pick up new series of shows I watch, sometimes watching Gogglebox can lead me to looking for a programme that looks good or sometimes I just flick thru the Sky guide on tv out of boredom.

BackforGood · 26/03/2021 16:07

I go on to 'Catch up' and scroll through the last 7 days until I see something that I think 'Ohh, I'd like to watch that'

Or sometimes people are talking about something they've seen so I go back and seek it out.

Of course there are some things you like to watch each week, so you know they are on but then I very, very, very rarely watch anything on the day it is on .

mogloveseggs · 26/03/2021 16:09

Saturday paper TV guide and gogglebox usually.
Our tv recording box has gone caput this week but luckily we have a now tv box.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 26/03/2021 16:09

Look at the Sky TV guide and the new series section particularly.

CloudPop · 26/03/2021 16:10

Weirdly my husband always seems to know when things are on, but I have no idea why/how. I must ask him!

RampantIvy · 26/03/2021 16:14

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 26/03/2021 16:18

I may be the last person in the country under the age of 70 who buys the Radio Times weekly. I love it.

We also buy the paper Guardian on a Saturday and keep the little TV guide that comes with it.

If I was out and about I guess I’d use the Radio Times website but I don’t really like the format.

DrunkenKoala · 26/03/2021 16:21

I buy a TV guide, usually buy it on Weds/Thurs ready for the following week.

emmathedilemma · 26/03/2021 16:24

Switch the TV on and look under the "guide".
