Furloughed still?

TheHallsHall · 26/03/2021 10:41

I work for an events production company and was unfortunate that I could not be put on furlough at the start of pandemic as I was a new starter, so worked a few days a week. However that changed when November hit and I was lucky that the company were able to enroll me on the furlough scheme.
It feels like a lot of people I know aren't on this scheme now and are back to work FT.
Out of curiosity is anyone still on furlough?
I should be going back to work mid April but will be on paternity leave

I’m back on furlough and have been since February. I’m definitely not furloughed because I don’t have a job to do at work, I firmly believe it’s a money saving ploy from my employer. To clarify they’re a ‘key’ industry who provide goods to a sector that hasn’t be troubled by Covid at all.

Over40andfedup · 26/03/2021 10:52

I was previously furloughed from April til July 2020

BarbaraofSeville · 26/03/2021 11:01

I'm not furloughed myself, but there's probably a few sectors where a lot of people are still on furlough.

Non essential retail
Nightclubs, pubs, restaurants, hotels etc
Airlines and related industries such as airport workers and the supply/maintenance chain
Leisure such as ice rinks, bowling alleys, soft play etc
Coach and train staff due to reduced demand
Cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries, country houses
Gyms, spas, hairdressers and other salons

That's quite a lot of people when you think about it and I've probably forgotten some sector.

I was furloughed and then made redundant. I now have a new job in marketing which involves some events management. We are planning U.K. face to face events (tentatively) for September.

plixy · 26/03/2021 11:10

I was furloughed from the start right through to December, and am now working half my usual hours - as is everyone I work with. I work in travel (booking mainly foreign holidays) so there just isn't enough work for us to do full time. I imagine we will continue with part time working for a few months yet.

Runwayqueen · 26/03/2021 11:10

I was furloughed for 5 weeks at the start of the first lockdown, then returned on full hours. From November I've been on flexi furlough, it's costing me more in fuel and childcare than what I was given on basic furlough but the alternative of having no job is unbearable.

AlCalavicci · 26/03/2021 11:12

I am not furloughed but some of our staff are and have been continuously since mid March last year
They are office cleaners and because all the office staff are WFH the building dosnt need cleaning.

Related to that. I know someone who was a receptionist in an office building. Now that many office buildings receive few or no visitors, they don't need a full time receptionist. She was furloughed until a couple of months ago and then was made redundant.

redheadwitch · 26/03/2021 11:32

We have some members of staff on flexi-furlough and a couple more who have been furloughed fully since around October 2020. Sadly we are opening redundancy business cases for those few "fully furloughed" people, as the pandemic has simply highlighted that they aren't needed. We have tried to hold on as long as possible in the hopes things improve workload wise, but its not happening fast enough.

JuneFromBethesda · 26/03/2021 11:35

I work in the arts. I was fully furloughed from March to July last year, and since then have been partially furloughed (reduced hours). I’ll be back to full pay and my normal working hours from next month I think.

Bringonthemushrooms · 26/03/2021 11:39

I was put on furlough end of March last year until middle of August then was back my normal hours until I was furloughed again end of December till end of February. I am now back on my normal hours

MondeoFan · 26/03/2021 11:42

I'm
On my 2nd lot of furlough. I was furloughed from March 2020-August 2020. Back to work in September-December.
Back on furlough from January-April

I've basically had about 8 months off in drips and drabs

JensonsAcolyte · 26/03/2021 11:46

Hospitality management.

I’ve been furloughed for longer than I’ve been at work, I started this job in August.

Thoroughly fed up with it now although very grateful I have a job to go back to, I lost my last job after the first lockdown.

kallia · 26/03/2021 12:04

I was furloughed April - October, when I was made redundant.

Found a new job starting January and was furloughed after 2 days (it's in a school, which shut down when the schools closed). As the school is still trying to save money I'm still furloughed and will likely be until I go on maternity leave in May. Basically, I've been furloughed for a year now.

It sucks, but there's not much I can do about it. You're definitely not the only one!

TheHallsHall · 26/03/2021 12:15

Weirdly though I am becoming accustomed to this new way of life. DW has found it incredibly helpful with me being around the house more especially in at this stage of the pregnancy and all throughout I've not really left her side apart from when she needs some alone time.
It will be great to get my career and life started again but until then I'm quite happy and just thankful and grateful I've got a job to go back to

over40andfedup my dp’s company are working similar to yours . Furloughing staff to save money rather than coz the work isn’t there . They are making a small team do all the work whilst furloughing a big proportion of the company . It’s not fair . They are using the governments money to profit from rather than to save jobs . They are even furloughing them for a week then bringing them back in a day here and there and just making up the 20% for the week .

There must be loads of companies who are not using furlough properly and not in the interest of the staff .

isseys4xmastinselcats · 26/03/2021 12:47

my two jobs are non essential retail and hospitality so i have been furloughed each and every time closedown has happened so far this year since January 1st i have worked a grand total of one day before Boris shut us all down again getting seriously fed up of yoyoing from work to home and back again , yes im lucky that due to being employed for long enough with each employer i get 80% of my pay but i would rather be at work

RaininSummer · 26/03/2021 12:59

I would be if I hadn't changed jobs a few weeks ago.Was on various forms of furlough since March 2020. Writing was on the wall I think for my job returning with sufficient hours which is why I have moved on.

idontlikealdi · 26/03/2021 13:05

Not me but we do have a number in my firm still on part time furlough. Construction project management.

marriednotdead · 26/03/2021 13:12

Non essential retail so on my third round of furlough. Due back after Easter all being well...

That must be like winning the lottery then being sent to prison

@Blackcountrychik I don’t know how they’re getting away with it. The staff left behind are working ridiculously hard trying to cover everything. Two resigned last week and i’m about to do the same as I’ve another job to go to.

Throwntothewolves · 26/03/2021 16:42

There are people who I normally work with who have been furloughed for a year and will continue to be so until the scheme ends, save for occasional training days, so not at all unusual in my line of work

blobby10 · 26/03/2021 16:51

We have a sales ledger clerk who has been furloughed since last April- I’m covering her work and because orders are so low can easily cope so it’s better for the company to keep her on furlough . Office cleaner ditto although I’m getting fed up with cleaning the kitchen and cloakroom! Two factory staff on furlough but not enough work to bring them back as rest of factory are on flex furlough due to low orders- our key industries are cosmetics and aerospace 🤷‍♀️

Figgyboa · 26/03/2021 17:16

I've been furloughed since the start of April 2020, font expect yo be back at work till july/August. I work in the music industry. I don't live in the UK so have had to claim unemployment to get through this time
