11 yo ds in pain with legs/feet/back.

For the last month or two Ds has been really stiff, like walking downstairs he is slow and seems to not be able to bend his leg/ankle. He says his feet hurt and his legs. I assumed growing pains but he now says his back hurts too. He walks like an old man! He’s active (obviously not much over lockdown) but this last week he can barely make it up or down the stairs at night/in the morning.

Any ideas what it could be?

Hypermobility
Childhood rheumatoid arthritis
Sever's disease
So many more things, some serious, some temporary like Sever's, it best to get a medical assessment really and if necessary a referral to physio, rheumatology.

Take him to an osteopath. Nobody will be able to guess on here, it's quite generalised and one thing wrong can lead to pain elsewhere. I was in agony with back pain but the cause was actually sacroiliac joint, doctor just threw diazepam my way and the osteopath diagnosed and resolved.

Take him to the GP. Have him assessed for Osgood–Schlatter disease. As well as Sever’s. Although as these conditions are related to fast growth, there’s not a lot they can do. But obviously important to rule out anything else.

If it is one or both of those, the best remedy is stretching, whole body activities like yoga and swimming. He will eventually grow out of it but may take until he is man-sized. Physiotherapy can also be helpful so see if your GP can refer him.

he needs to be seen by a medical professional (not an osteopath!)

go and see your gp.

has dc started a new sport/been more active than usual?

good luck!
