For me, it was a relatively easy surgery. I had keyhole via my side and navel. My stomach ached for a couple of days but nothing a painkiller couldn't solve.

That was 18 months ago and it has caused me no issues since. I'm really glad I had it done!

I had it done the op was fine done at same time as a c section.
Hideous regret though as was rushed into it. I did have it reversed in the end
The op itself though no complications

marriednotdead · 25/03/2021 18:05

Simple day surgery, no drama at all. A bit uncomfortable for a couple of days afterwards but no worse than a period pain wise.
Came round to having a photo (of my insides showing the clips in place) shoved in my face which was quite disconcerting! No regrets at all.

Boho7 · 25/03/2021 18:12

Do you have to be over a certain age? I'm 30

Purpleapplepeach · 25/03/2021 18:14

I was 30 when mine was done

Purpleapplepeach · 25/03/2021 18:15

And 35 when reversed !

simonisnotme · 25/03/2021 18:19

i was 'done' a good few years ago the only painful bit was the stiches (in 2 places) after, especially when DH pulled my belly accidently

Boho7 · 25/03/2021 18:22

@Purpleapplepeach ah that's interesting. Did you have more children after the reversal? I feel adamant now I dont want any more but I guess no one knows how things might be down the line and worry that I might regret it. I've been thinking about it for a while. I always said I'd never have babies in my 30s but now I'm 30 I dont see why I couldnt or shouldn't x

SuperPixie247 · 25/03/2021 18:23

You don't have to be a certain age but if you are on the younger side, you will probably be heavily discouraged or turned away. I was 26 when I had mine but got really lucky with GP and gyno.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 25/03/2021 18:23

Thank god you've all replied. She really put the wind up me.Ive looked online and the complications seem rare.Im 40.

They do have to tell you all the possible complications. I was sterilised during a CSection with my 3rd DC. I was 36. No complications. It was liberating to not have to worry about getting pregnant again. That being said, the failure rate is 1 in 200. Also my periods have been much heavier ever since.

swampytiggaa · 25/03/2021 18:30

Had it done about 10 years ago bit bruised and sore for a few days then fine. Periods became heavier but that might have been age related too.

Boho7 · 25/03/2021 18:31

I'm just so paranoid contraception will fail and I dont want to be in a decision making position. My kids are 4 and 5 and I really feel done, the thought of having a surprise pregnancy panics me. I'm not broody. However we are in a position to support a 3rd if it happened so I dunno if they would think I have enough of reason at my age to get it done. Do you need a more valid reason other than just really not wanting any more? X

THNG5 · 25/03/2021 18:31

Not a complication as such but I fell pregnant 7 months after having my tubes cut. I did have it done during my c section of my third and found after (obviously) that the chance of failure goes up when it's done during a c section.

Boho7 · 25/03/2021 18:33

Oh wow I didnt realise the success rate was so low!

MintyCedric · 25/03/2021 18:36

Had it done at 39 along with an ovary removed due to a benign cyst.

It was painful afterwards but I imagine that wasn't due to the ovary removal. No other issues at all.

Karwomannghia · 25/03/2021 18:40

I was done a couple of years ago and it’s been fine. Nice not to have to take hormones. I was over 40. I had the clips. I think there have been some issues with essure I think it’s called where they block the Fallopian tubes by putting a coiled section in or something but they don’t tend to use the that method now.

Purpleapplepeach · 25/03/2021 18:51

Yes, 2 more !

Boho7 · 25/03/2021 18:54

@Purpleapplepeach ahh it's nice to know it can be successfully reversed x

Mypremiumwhat · 25/03/2021 19:06

I had it done after a csection over a year ago and no problems whatsoever. Where I live, they remove the whole tube if possible, and if not they remove a section of it to lessen the likelihood of reattachment (which can happen when they're cut). Absolutely no issues from mine, the only thing I've noticed is an increase in discharge mid cycle. Love the freedom it gives me. I was fully certain though and had wanted it done since my 3rd cs but they wouldn't do it then as it was an emcs. I had it done after my 4th in the end Smile

Elieza · 25/03/2021 19:21

My friend got her tubes tied.

They must have untied as she was pregnant three years later. Shock

Redtartanshoes · 25/03/2021 19:31

Had mine done a couple of years ago, ended up in private hospital even though it was on the nhs. Was great, in at 7am, home 1ish? Sore for a day or 2 after, periods as light as they were before. Was 36 with 1 child.

KatyN · 25/03/2021 20:05

When I got done, I had my tubes removed rather than tied so there was no going back. Apparently it reduces the very small risk of Fallopian tube cancer.

I had no complications.
