Hi

I love MN and get such good support, distraction and a laugh. Is there an equivalent platform I could recommend to my 16 year old daughter???

Not sure, but I wouldn't be encouraging a 16yo to be chatting to strangers online. I'd be concerned about people targeting such a site with less than innocent intentions. They're still learning how to keep themselves safe at that age.

The student room - predominantly uk forum, geared towards study and uni choices but has wider subgroups too

Thestudentroom but agree with PP.

Yes, I did wonder about that but it's something she needs to learn to navigate. She's been locked up in the house for a year more or less so online chatting is becoming increasingly the norm.

I dunno but MN reminds me of a grown up version of 'Girland,' does anyone remember that?

Via discord there's forums for all kinds of interests. Obviously the normal caveats about online safety, but these are safer than general access sites like this because they are moderated. My dd is one of the moderators for her hobby and anyone who isn't friendly and courteous is kicked straight out. It's been literally a lifesaver for her, they supported her through very dark days and she meets local people in real life.
