Anyone had a shower fitted recently?

Random question I know.
I want to get an electric shower fitted over my bath. It’s taken me 6 months and numerous plumbers to finally get one who replied, turned up, did a quote and sent it to me.
It’s £750.
Does anyone know if that sounds about right? Having never had a shower fitted, and being unable to get anyone else to quote, I’ve got absolutely no idea if that’s in the right ball-park.

Anyone know?
Thank you

That sounds a lot to me, was a couple of years ago now but pretty sure I got mine done for about £200. Then again, it was a direct replacement so I guess that's easier? Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along I a minute!

Thank you.
Yes this needs the electrics put in, tiles removed etc. There’s nothing there at all at the moment apart from 2 separate bath taps.

Seems expensive.

It took me six weeks and numerous plumbers visits to get a diary date from a plumber.

It cost £350 to have several plumbing jobs done including replacing the existing wet room shower. I paid for the shower so it would be on site for the plumber's attention.

That doesn't seem too expensive for me if it includes the actual appliance

Might be worth contacting some plumbers now the weather has warmed up.
Plumbers are up to their eyeballs in boiler replacements over the winter.

Seems high, but we just swapped for a new electric shower, so no massive works (£75). We also bought and supplied the shower we wanted fitted (£65).

That said you're talking about tiling, adding an electrical spur, and probably copper pipework additions so not that simple.

How have they broken down the quote (labour/time, materials, shower etc)?

BarbaraofSeville · 25/03/2021 12:24

How much is the shower? We just had to replace ours and the shower itself was just over £200. DP did the work, so no labour cost, but if you've got to put in the water and electrics and remove and replace tiles, I can see that it might take more than a day so it might be £200 shower, £50 other bits like pipes, wiring, power switch and £250 per day labour.

What sort of shower is that? We've had to buy two now (a few years apart) and have researched into the least crap best electric shower at the best price, and like I've just said, it's cost about £200 a time, but it's really not great and I just assumed all electric showers are a bit crap.

We're currently considering converting to one that works off the central heating boiler and doing it soon so we can sell our electric one while it's still virtually new.

Unfortunately both replacements have been due to catestrophic failure where we've had to replace it right now so just bought replacements that will fit straight into the same pipes and wiring rather than being able to do some thinking and planning about how to change what we have.

And yes, they are all crap. Unfortunately ours died, and we aren't in a position to renovate the bathroom yet so it was was cheap switch until we've saved some more to go for a mains shower. I hate hate hate electric showers.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/03/2021 14:25

What does this include? How much of this is labour? Presumably this is also before VAT? Where in the country are you? It's a bit hard to say without knowing the full details.

Always get a written quote which breaks down the costings so you can see how this stacks up then you can google the fittings and avg labour costs etc.

We've not done it but had a quote for similar for about £450+VAT, days labour plus the shower fitting itself. We didn't go ahead in the end because it would have ruined the tiles so would have had to retile, making additional costs so we decided to put up with what we had and save up to get the bathroom redone eventually in full.

This is what we had installed. I purchased it and paid for it to be delivered so it was here when the plumber came to replace the existing shower that was at the end of its' life.

It's not going to suit everyone's taste. That's not the point.
