Neighbours. I don't know why it bothers me. Would you be bothered?

We live in a semi detached house. In the back gardens of both houses there is a bit of a patio and then lawn.

The neighbours have 2 DC. One at the same village school as my dc, and a 1 year old.

We have a low fence that separates the back gardens. On their side, all over the patio are yellow nappy bags. They get cleared away every 2 weeks just before bin day.
Now I've seen them, I sort of keep looking now.

I don't know why it bothers me, I think it is because we are garden and house proud and love gardening where as they are always indoors whatever the weather.

Should I just ignore?

Oh that's just gross. It will encourage vermin, and will stink to high heaven come some sunny weather.

reallifegetsintheway2 · 24/03/2021 14:20

I think that's icky. I would report to the envornmental health. Around here you can get deginated nappy green bins. Not nice in summer.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/03/2021 14:20

You have no choice but to ignore it, but that would bother me, too. How disgusting.

eggyknife · 24/03/2021 14:21

It's a bit gross but yes, ignore unless there's an actual problem - not just you can see them.

Hoppythehippo · 24/03/2021 14:22

They have thin plastic nappy bags with used nappies in all over their patio? One, those could easily break and two, how hard is it to just put it in the wheelie bin. I bet they just throw them out the window too. Utterly grim. I don’t think you can do much unless it’s attracting vermin (after all, you can let your dog cover your garden in unbagged dog mess if you want) but it’s grim and I’d judge. Hard.

Quadrangle · 24/03/2021 14:22

It's unpleasant. I assume they just throw them out of the window instead of putting them in the outdoor bin. Once the weather warms up they will start to stink if they don't already. I'd probably have to say something if I could smell them

KarensChoppyBob · 24/03/2021 14:30

My first though was to just ignore, but then
I thought rats and maggots and oof no.

I can't imagine they'd welcome this pointing out though and I've watched too many episodes of Neighbours from Hell to advise tacking them face on about it.

Maybe hold fire until it does actually start to smell or attract vermin?

KarensChoppyBob · 24/03/2021 14:31

Thought

ekidmxcl · 24/03/2021 14:32

Is the 1yo nearly 2 or just 1. I’m wondering when this problem will disappear naturally

bloodywhitecat · 24/03/2021 14:33

That would bother me too, come the warmer weather they are going to reek to high heaven.

KitchenFairy · 24/03/2021 14:34

That’s disgusting and they’ll stink in the summer.

On the next vaguely warm day can you knock and say that you’re downwind and those nappy bags smell. Or that you’ve seen a rat at one of them.

KarensChoppyBob · 24/03/2021 14:34

Tackling

ekidmxcl · 24/03/2021 14:34

Shit in wheelie bins stinks and also it’s a pain to get to the wheelie bin every nappy change so I can kind of see their thinking. It’s been absolutely years since mine were in nappies though.

Serena1977 · 24/03/2021 14:36

Thank you. I thought I shouldnt be a nosey neighbour but once seen , means I know iyswim.

They do throw them out of the window so there is a collection underneath the living room window and the kitchen window.

I've probably been thinking about it too much too because how do they wash their hands after a change, going to the kitchen, you might as well go to the outdoor bin as the kitchens are on the outer side of the houses.

The problem with reporting it is that due to the position of the houses, their neighbour on the other side cant see the bags so if we report they will know it's us. No vermin as such around the bags but we are rural so there is always allsorts of animals about. No smells noticed yet. Our patio set goes on the patio when the weather gets better which is bothering me. It didnt happen last year, presumably the mum had more time to deal with the rubbish as she was on maternity leave.

That's gross. We had some dirty nappy thing when the kids were little and I would throw that out of the upstairs window on bin night rather than carry it down the stairs gagging, but it then went straight into the bin. Give it a few weeks and they'll be attracting flies and you'll have a good reason to politely ask them to dispose of them properly.

Quirrelsotherface · 24/03/2021 14:39

People are so gross.

KarensChoppyBob · 24/03/2021 14:40

Fly = larva = maggot Envy(not envy).

PrtScn · 24/03/2021 14:46

Do they never use their garden?! Surely bagged shitty nappies all over the place is not an environment to let your children play in.

Serena1977 · 24/03/2021 14:52

That's the thing. They dont use the garden at all. Even in the summer, they are either out, the mum mentioned to me she is close to her mum so they are at hers a lot. They mow the lawns and that's it. Not sure why they bought the place because the gardens both front and back are much bigger than the house.

Chloemol · 24/03/2021 14:57

I would be putting up a higher fence so I didn’t see it, and make the whole of your garden private

If it starts to smell in the summer I would report

1forAll74 · 24/03/2021 15:13

The bags could get covered in slugs if the bags get wet.
It's hard to tell someone about their offending and grim habits if they are the Mind your own business types. I think I would tell them that you can smell the bags now.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/03/2021 15:17

Of course it's disgusting. Surprised añyone wohld think otherwise. Making a daily trip to the wheelie bin is hardly Mrs Hinch territory.

AtrociousCircumstance · 24/03/2021 15:22

Put up a higher fence. If they ask why, tell them.

HopeHappy · 24/03/2021 15:22

I'd find that hard not to judge too. We put the cat litter bags outside the door as we go to bed, to save having to go round the side of the house at night, but they always go straight in the bin first thing the next day when the little shits darlings have filled their tray again. The thought of leaving them for 2 weeks?! Envy
