Period pants

Sorry if this has been done to death. I'm falling out of love with my mooncup which I have used for about 15 years now with varying degrees of success. Do you have any recommendations for period pants? I've looked at Modi-bodi and it seems like a really expensive option.

Any others that people recommend?

Thanks!

Another vote for cheeky wipes pants!

noscoobydoodle · 24/03/2021 21:59

Cheeky wipes pants here. I bought because they weren't too expensive to try. I like them, and like the idea, so might 'upgrade' although my favourite is still the cheap reausable pads I bought years ago!

Seriouslymole · 25/03/2021 10:16

This is nowhere near the fun purchasing experience that reusable nappies was all those years ago with all the cool wraps to choose from.... disappointed...

WUKA are fabulous - started using them 6 months ago - total gamechanger, wish I'd had I'd them for years

floofycroissant · 25/03/2021 10:39

I've had a few pairs of modibody for a year, they've held up well but I've never really liked them, very bulky. I've just bought a load of the Sainsbury's range as.thehre a their of the price

Sadly i am a very leaky human.

I have being using various period pants for 4 years. They have come a long way in a few years.
Carol Smillie introduced "Diary doll" - and they were great, No longer available, I switched and tried Flux, Thinx etc, all fairly pricy, and gusset never seemed wide enough to use with pad.

Recently I have found "LOVE LUNA" very reasonably priced from TU at Sainsbury's £10- £16 a pair, and they WORK. Can sleep with no worry ...
A couple of decent styles.

Soon there will be DAME period pants, following on from their reusable pads and reusable tampon applicator (saving so much plastic)

So in short, try Love Luna - not silly money and as good as the expensive imports.

Alex2112 · 30/03/2021 12:00

Also would add that all the period pants I have used do not really have wide enough gusset.
I am intersex and, yes a tad different down there, and have labiaplasty as part of further surgery this year, but even allowing for those issues, the gusset does not allow for use of a pad, if required,

Heard some female comedian describe her genitalia as a badly. over packed suitcase edge.. i sadly feel that! .. gussets do not allow for that excess Blush

Sorry to jump on OP but has anyone tried the M&S period pants? Currently 4 for 3 so £36 for 4 pairs which is tempting.

I haven't, I think they are new. You'd have to road test them and report back!

Have purchased - brought :

4 (for price of 3) "Confidence"
High absorbency period full brief for £36.00

and

4 (for price of 4) "Confidence"
High absorbency period high leg knicker (Black) for £36.00

So yes, 8 pairs, but I am sadly a leaky human.

As with "love luna" brand from TU / Sainsbury's these are reasonably priced. compared to the more expensive ones from Thinx etc

Have only tried the high leg version, and seems ideal, - no issue with the "absorbent" area. Just feels normal cotton. Would only use black, as I live a male, and sense the polka dot / pink ones may show up leaks, But great to see period protection pants becoming so widely available, and in different designs, YES they have "pretty" feminine ones with lace waist and side panels - not for me!

just a good a Love Luna, so a 9 out of 10 for both for me. could do with wider gusset.

Well done M&S

I'm a WUKA wearer - love them, no complaints.

My ten penny worth is to look at the wash instructions! The love Luna ones didn't work for me as you wash at 30 with no softener so I couldn't bung them in with the majority of my washing x

Triffid1 · 06/04/2021 13:23

@yeknom - can Wuka just be washed as normal? Because that's my issue. I have actually stuck my love luna in the normal wash at 40 but they haven't got back to me yet so not sure if they'll have survived. I also feel like having to do a delicate cycle is a bit tricky as it means that I can't wash them as I use them.

If I'm understanding feedback on here, WUKA and Modibodi seem to be most popular. With Love Luna and Cheeky Wipes both considered a good choice on the cheaper end. I've been very impressed with the Love Luna ones but have only used for one month and as I said, need to see how they wash.

It's a good question.

My Modibodi need to be washed at 30C which is a bit of a pain, as I am someone that bungs everything in at 40C with softener.

So, I'm having to find more things to wash at 30C during my period. Not a big deal - I'll just stick my 'lounge wear' in, or give DS's dressing gown a wash, or save up my swim kit (when the pools open!) but having period pants that I could do at 40C (happy to omit the softener) would be great.

The problem with my 30C wash is that it doesn't spin much.

Triffid1 · 07/04/2021 14:36

@TheOrigRights I've just ordered two additional Luna pairs - trying a different size and a different type to figure out what's best. I'm toying with getting one of the Thinx super absorbent pairs for heavy days. Then will hand wash during the week and then bundle up and wash together with a few other bits that don't need a hot cycle when my period is over. Feels like a good compromise. Thanks.

Yeknom · 05/05/2021 11:55

@Triffid1 and @TheOrigRights sorry I've only just seen your question - yes they can be washed as normal (WUKA) - hence why I chose them! 40deg wash with softener.

Silly DH put a pair in the tumble drier by mistake and luckily they're fine - on the website it confirmed they'd be good too, just don't tumble dry them often as it decreases their life span x

honeybuns007 · 05/05/2021 11:59

I have several brands but I struggle to use them during proper full flow period. I just don't like the idea of sitting in pants with hours worth of blood in them. They have never leaked but as with tampons and pads, I feel like I want to change them a few times a day. And that is just a faff of out and about as I'm carrying bulky pants and used bulky pants. I do like then for the beginning and end though.

Chipsahoy · 05/05/2021 12:04

I find the mobodi smell after a while. I’ve had them a few months and really notice a smell. I wash them as instructed.
I have cheeky wipes ones and they don’t smell but they aren’t quite as absorbent.
