Wages going down

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 00:48

Has anyone else noticed in their area how much wages have dropped
I am looking for job ( admin with lots of experience and accounts/ purchasing etc)
Been looking a while but noticed wages dropping will see a job for £18000 but when apply its 40 or 42hrs a week and when you divide the hourly rate is low
These are jobs that are looking for lots of experience etc
I know their are not lots of jobs around ( i have been applying for months) but it really seems like lots of companies are taking advantage of the situation as some are not ones that have been affected by covid

I haven’t noticed as I am not looking for work but saw another thread on here where lots of people were saying the same as you.

How will people afford to pay for food and housing Sad??

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/03/2021 06:13

There was another thread about this recently. I’m
guessing it’s because there’s a lot of people job hunting at the moment. Supply and demand.

Oblomov21 · 24/03/2021 06:21

Many people I've talked to have noticed this. With covid and tonnes of redundancy, it's clearly Even more of an employers market. how depressing.

I've definitely noticed that jobs where you need skills or qualifications are paying the same as minimum wage which annoys me. You cant get just anyone off the street to do that job so pay like it!

Yes sadly this.

Do you have any civil service jobs near you? Their pay scales will remain the same whilst everyone else suffers.

In the warehouse I work in they are using any excuse to sack people and either immediately re -hiring them on worse contracts or replacing them with apprentices on £2 an hour; they get a bonus from the government for employing the latter.

All of which will do wonders for our economy.

HelloMrBond · 24/03/2021 07:42

Unless your public sector and you demand a pay rise because you deserve it, unfortunately the jobs market will be a truer reflection of the economy.

Coconuts2020 · 24/03/2021 08:02

I keep seeing comments saying apprentices are being hired on £2 per hour. Is that true? The minimum wage for apprentices is more than £2.

Slippersocks20 · 24/03/2021 09:16

Apprenticeship wage is £3 something. No matter what age you are the 1st year employers can pay that. 2nd year of apprenticeship it's the min wage for your age group. My source for that is UK govs own website.

Bugger pressed send before finishing.

I think that's why there are a lot of one year only "apprenticeships."
