Anyone live in Worcester?

Thinking of making a move to Worcester. Maybe Droitwich in particular. Are there any places I should avoid? I have 3 young children and would like them to grow up in a nice area (currently live on the outskirts of a big city)

Droitwich isn't the nicest of places. Nothing really there apart from train station! Direct trains to Birmingham.

I'm south Worcestershire but would avoid Warndon .

Ah, really? Any places you’d recommend?

Giving this a little bump!

We really enjoyed living near town. The Aboretum area near the swimming pool. There's some nice parks nearby and a lot of it feels very residential plus so close to the train station.

St John's was nice but can be very student filled depending on where you are. We really liked having the park on the way to town and being so close to the cricket.

Wouldn't recommend Rainbow Hill area, we lived there our first two years and some bits were nice but it felt quite rough in most.

Depending on budget Whittington is lovely, as are Claines/Bevere

I've lived in Worcester for most of my life and have always lived in North Worcester. Barbourne, Northwick, Bevere and Claines are all lovely areas on the edge of the city. Good schools, great walks, near motorway link (but without the noise), sports centre/swimming pool, parks. Can you tell I love it?

MonochromeMinnie · 24/03/2021 11:02

Nothing wrong with Droitwich. There's a lovely park and lido and everything you need in the town centre. Good sports facilities too. We don't live there (about 8 miles away) but my daughter played football for Droitwich Wildcats and had many friends there - they all love it there.

Areas to avoid around Worcester: Warndon (as opposed to Warndon Villages), Dines Green, Tolladine, Brickfields, Rainbow Hill. St John's property is good value for money, but awkward for motorway access (that will change if the ring road ever gets finished and prices will rise). Also steer clear of the immediate uni area.

We used to live in Fernhill Heath, between Worcester and Droitwich, and although it's nothing special, the people were lovely, great primary school, good pubs, post office and general store. I made my closest friends there when the DC were little.

This is all very helpful, thanks everyone 😊

Obviously schools are an important factor.

Would you say it’s a safe place to live?
There’s a big problem with gangs in the city I live (not my specific area though). I just don’t want my children growing up around that.

You don't hear of major crimes. Possibly some drug related but rarely any murders. There was a murder couple weeks ago but was a woman having a mental crisis episode stabbing her mum in the head which killed her. I actually knew the murderer as she was my brothers ex girlfriends brothers ex.

Well Worcester has its problems, like everywhere else, but relatively speaking yes it's a safe city.

Hi, We settled in Worcester from London many years ago now and really like the City. We live in St Johns near Pitmaston Park which is a lovely place to live. (good school) surrounded by a mix of Victorian, 1930's /50's style houses . There is a library, Sainsburys, Co-op, Health Fitness Centre, M&S garage and swimming pool at Lower Wick. Schools are good, lots of green areas for walks not forgetting the river. On opposite side of Worcester and up London road a Waitrose. (also Malvern). My daughter is in Droitwich with her family and I've come to know that town also. Again plenty of green spaces (particularly on the older established housing estates) which is unusual to see these days. There is a large park with play areas for young children and older children. A lido and cafe - oh and a Waitrose and Morrisons in town. If you would like any further info just pm me. Good luck.

I am moving from London too. Is it a big shock culturally, as London is obviously very busy.

Will a six year old be happy there in Worcester, what's Rushwick and Whittington like? Would you go for Kings or RGS primaries! Thanks.

@Patience4 - probably too late, but definitely RGS.
