I have got a beef casserole on the go inthe slow cooker and am going to make some dumplings .
Is an hour towards the end enough time or do you allow for more time .?
Thank you .

Last 30-60 mins!

Fairydustrust · 23/03/2021 14:50

At least half an hour, but I have put them in ages before that and they were fine.

Remember to leave the lid off the slow cooker when the dumplings are in, it stops them being too soggy on the top.

Ah, thank you, you've answered my question, mine always look like a mound of slime

Ahh posted a question and lost it !
allmycats thank you!
My question was about submerging them fully or half then turning them .

So ..no lid on for the end ?
Or bit of lid on ?
Yep ..first timer here!

No lid when the dumplings are in.

PsychoSyd · 23/03/2021 16:49

I put them in 30 minutes before the end, but put the casserole in the oven to crisp the dumplings. I turn them every ten minutes to 'baste' them & make sure the top is crispy.

iklboo · 23/03/2021 16:56

I turn mine halfway through the 30 mins I put them in for.

SimplyMarvellousDarrrrrrling · 23/03/2021 18:45

Can I just ask if these are frozen dumplings or homemade ones?
@allmycats

I prefer my casserole dumplings in the oven lid off so they go crispy

V easy to make - buy veg suet and it has a recipe on the package! Can add horseradish sauce or mustard etc to mix them up a bit 😋

bizzey · 23/03/2021 18:50

Mine are homemade dumplings ...about to be dished up .
I will update later!

Well done @bizzey! last question, but can anyone share their SC dumpling recipe, the recipe I am using is just not working

AliceBlueGown · 24/03/2021 08:27

Just use the recipe on the suet packet. However make sure that you make a wet mixture rather than dry. You need sloppy spoonfuls. In all honesty I would have transferred the casserole to the oven for the last 30mins to get a light dumpling - might try the slow cooker method as it got such a good result.

Oldraver · 24/03/2021 10:58

Years ago a friend of mine used to rave about his secret ingredient in dumplings... a small pit of sour cream rather than water to bind

I couldn't tell the difference myself
