Cleaning wisdom

We're moving in to a place that looks like no one else has ever lived there.

We have two dogs and I am, what my mother calls, slovenly.

Please enlighten me with your cleaning tips and tricks to stay on top of the cleaning and organisation in order to keep it lovely.

I've downloaded the team tomm app and am going to have standards about doing the washing up etc before bed instead of leaving it until the morning.

But what other clever tips/hacks/ideas do you use?

P.S. I've name changed so people don't know what a slattern I am 😂

Keep ddogs downstairs... No carpets downstairs. Find a nice floor cleaner and stick to it!!
I wash ddog blankets and beds weekly. We have 4 ddogs.

Put things away, not down.

It's titled throughout and theres only the bedroom and bathroom upstairs so the dogs won't be going up there. The sofa is fabric, not leather 🙄 so we'll have to get throws.

Everything will have to be put away as there's little storage/space.

Decent vacuum cleaner is a must.
Washable/wipeable mats at the doors to catch muddy paws.
No knicknaks. They just gather dust.
Try and keep surfaces clear. Easier to wipe down.
Don't store stuff on kitchen counters. Put everything in cupboards. Again makes it quicker & easier to clean.
Small appliances that are out, move & give a quick wipe over & under everyday (while you wait for the kettle to boil or the washing machine door to release).
Get a dishwasher if you can fit one in.
Everyone needs to do their part!

Keep some cleaning materials in the bathroom, preferably out of sight. Then after a shower/ bath/ teeth clean, it’s easy to wipe round.

Bicarbonate of soda is your BFF. Sprinkled and left overnight on sofas/rugs/carpets and hoovered up the following day will keep strong odours at bay (it’s the only thing that really gets rid of vomit smell- it’s that good! Plus nontoxic).

We’re a pet household. I hoover every other day, clean as I go.
I use a Leifheit rubber (magnetic) broom on downstairs (wood and tile) floors if I just want to get up the dust and hairs quickly. Another thing I love is the Leifheit magnetic cloth/floor wipe ‘clean and away’ mop head is your friend in the bathroom. It just makes keeping the bathroom floors clean so much easier than dragging around buckets and mops. I use Dettol large floor wipes with it after dusting up the bathroom floors with a magnetic cloth. The head fits both magnetic wipes and the Dettol floor wipes.

Sorry about my terrible sentence structure. I’ve got Pokemon music blasting as I type. Zero ability to concentrate! Grin

Try to get in the habit of not letting things build up. If you see a spill or a smear then wipe it up then or as soon as possible. It's much quicker and easier to clean as you go than have to scrub something that's dried/burnt in (hob/oven a good example).

Again, not a trick, but don't forget the edges of rooms/dusting & wiping skirtings on a regular basis. It's a pain, but if you don't then rooms never quite look clean. You don't need to do it every time you hoover/mop but build into your routine - ditto other paintwork. Even just once a month makes a difference.
