Help me keep my cold at bay!

I can feel a cold trying to settle today - I'm fuzzy-headed, sore-throated, tired and sneezy and and I CANNOT have it this week.

Tips, tricks, experience, advice, old wives' tales and pure witchcraft all welcome.

Get some first defence nasal spray

Ooh I’m glad you started this thread. I meant to last week when I was full of cold!

Here are some things I do:

I eat scratchy things like crisps if my throat is itchy. Apparently that’s good. TBH I have the association now so I crave them when I have a cold!

For any throaty tickle I gargle with proper Corsodyl or equivalent for a few nights in case it’s anything bacterial. Used to get throat infections etc a lot before I started this.

Microwaved jelly cubes to soothe a sore throat

Eat fresh pineapple as apparently it’s good for mucous?!

The main thing for me though is steam. I’ve had far less trouble with chesty coughs (always the fear when I get a cold) since I used the steam room at the gym regularly. Obv can’t do that now so I stick my face over a bowl of boiled water with Vicks in

Vicks on my back/chest even if I don’t feel like it’s affected yet. Also I read somewhere about putting it on your feet.

I'm sure vitamin d stopped me getting a cold a few weeks ago.

Vicks First Defence spray is really good.

Rum. It won't make your cold better, but it helps you get through the symptoms.

(seriously, sometimes you just have to let things run their course, but an antihistimine will sometimes get me through - it's not very good for you though)

Another vote for First Defence, I swear by it.
Also try taking immunity-boosting vitamins and/or echinacea.

I've never heard of First Defence – I wonder if I can get it here? (I live in Spain)

@Tyredofallthis1 I've been eyeing the whisky for a hot toddy all day... Grin

Vitamin C. Lots of it.

It might not stop your cold but it will help to quicken your recovery x
