I had a bottom one out 4 weeks ago. Emergency in the chair and it was a bit brutal TBH but that was because one root went straight down and the other had a curve. Told the dentist not to scrimp on the anaesthetic. He calmly said “i wont scrimp today as im out of bricks”😂 i think being whacked out would have been better.

Took about 45 mind to get it out having had it broken in 2 with the drill. Once it was out i went into shock and couldn’t stop shaking but it was also adrenaline and relief. Went home, ate jelly and angel delight, and a diet of nurofen and paracetamol more often than I should have.

But that lasted a week so be prepared to feel rough and feeling sorry for yourself. Rest the next day on the sofa and watch Netflix.

Its not just a tooth removal, it ms a procedure.

But you will be fine!

Thanks all. I have to say, it was a really horrible experience for me, the pain was excruciating but since it has come out I've experienced no pain at all. I am a bit worried about the dry socket thing.. I've had smoothies through a straw as I didn't realise I shouldn't have a straw. Would I feel it straight away if I'd dislodged it?

I had one out last Monday - i was dreading it but it was much better than a deep filling I had last year. No real pain at all bar a bit of gum soreness.

Do you mean you experienced pain during or after? Yeah you really shouldn't use a straw. If you have a strong throbbing pain on that side of your face you may have dry socket. Did your dentist not give you aftercare instructions?

DD had one top and one bottom one removed a week ago. Both were impacted.

The top one - was sore initially, she still has bruising on her face, but the pain has now gone.

Bottom one - less bruising on her face but still sore a week later. She's taking ibuprofen 2-3 times a day.

No dry socket, and she is back at work/school.

Had a top one out under local. I hear lower ones hurt more.
I found it unpleasant because I hated feeling them tugging on the tooth- but I felt zero pain during or after.
I was a bit swollen after, and the taste of blood in my mouth made me feel sorry for myself so I spent the day resting in bed. But it didn’t actually hurt at all. I was strict about following the rules so as to avoid dry socket, infection

Ps. I took my earphones and music. I’d recommend that if you get anxious and are doing it under local

Oh. Jut saw your update
Sorry it was horrible.

Had mine out under GA (I had 6, not the usual 4). I had no pain or swelling. Alternated paracetamol and ibuprofen for a few days and salt water rinses

I’ve had two top wisdom teeth removed. One was quick and easy - couple of minutes in the dentists chair.

The other was so difficult to get to that they gave up on the first try after an hour, and I went into hospital and had it done under GA instead. It also destroyed the tooth in front so I lost that too.

I hate wisdom teeth.
