Was everyone's red nose rubbish this year?

One was split before it came out the box. The rest didn't survive the school journey home and fell in two pieces. Not that they fitted.

School has sent round a hopeful email asking if anyone would like another. Hard sell that one.

In previous years you could donate and you had a choice between getting a red nose or having one painted on which seemed like a better idea both environmentally and supporting a good cause.

Obviously covid this year but the waste just seems awful.

I believe this year was the first year the noses were made 100% plastic free and biodegradable. Could account for them being a bit more flimsy but at least means they aren’t hanging around in landfill for thousands of years.

We weren't allowed red noses at ds's school due to covid risk! He had to wear a red accessory and donate money instead (we managed socks as he doesn't really have accessories!) Think this was actually preferable as the nose is a bit of a waste anyway even if wearable!

They just had a non uniform day at school, parents donated via Parent pay.

I never understood the buying of paraphernalia... Makes more sense just to donate money.

I am glad they will degrade, much preferred a little dab of red face paint on a nose though.

I know they are biodegradable but does that mean they are compostable?

They handed them out at the end of the day because of covid risks and wore red. I don't mind donating but the amount of energy that goes into making stuff, transporting it to the uk, distribution etc. it just seems like a lot.

Not just you OP, I understand and support the need to be more environmentally friendly but they were rubbish. Our broke after about 5 minutes and didn’t fit on the children’s nose anyway!

Previous years I noticed that they didn’t last long- a matter of hours if that. This year I “forgot” to give my son money to buy one because it’s so annoying that they go straight in the bin. He wasn’t bothered and took a pound in for dress up day. It irritates me that a charity raises money to help some of the most disadvantaged people on the planet but is simultaneously helping to wreck the planet faster by producing crap that goes straight to landfill or that some poor animal mistakes for food and chokes on or something.
