If I've never watched Line of Duty before, do you think I'd be able to pick it up easily with the new series?

I've had it on my Netflix list for a while but I haven't had the time/will to commit to 5 seasons. I just saw that a new series is staring tonight on BBC1.

Do you think I'd be able to start there or is there too much of a backstory that I've missed out on?

I couldn't get into Series 1 at all , but watched Series 2 onwards then realised after going back to 1 that I'd missed a load .

And you can look forward to all the little Ted-isms entering your vocabulary .

Just finished episode One, season one! We're hooked, that Gates, it's not going to work out well for him is it?

Thanks for the advice, this will get us through this lockdown which looks like it might last for all eternity (Ireland) Will strictly ration to one episode a night!

And you can say to your DP/DH... he is entitled to be interviewed by one rank above whenever he winds you up!

Yes you definitely have to watch from first series. It is so worth it. I watched the whole lot again a few weeks ago in preparation for the new series starting tonight.

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 21/03/2021 22:13

Nope, I've just re watched the whole 5 series before series 6 starts.

Enjoy, OP, to the letters of the law Wink

I literally said this to my partner tonight. Never gets old! 🤣 Such a brilliant series! For the love of God...!!!!
nursejekyll · 21/03/2021 22:17

Season 3 is absolutely blooming brilliant, but you need to have seen the previous seasons to understand the inner workings of AC12 and the bent coppers in their midst.

Babyroobs · 21/03/2021 22:19

Never watched it before but just watched the episode this evening and thought it wasn't great. Am I missing something?

nursejekyll · 21/03/2021 22:27

Yes 5 seasons of backstory!

PurpleMustang · 21/03/2021 22:38

Okay shoot me now, I have never watched this. It gets such hype when a new series comes out I am wanting to start from Series 1. But can anyone tell me what age can watch this. Got a DS15 and wondering if ok for him to watch?

ImInStealthMode · 21/03/2021 22:44

I've watched them all and still got confused watching the first episode of series 6 tonight, so I'd say start from the beginning for sure!

BookShark · 21/03/2021 23:13

Me too! Well, sort of - I'm on series three and desperately hoping I can get through the rest before DH insists on starting the new series. I got a pass tonight, but it won't last...

Oops, I'd meant to quote @MrsHastingslikethebattle
DianaPrinceRocks · 21/03/2021 23:28

Please can I hijack OP but how are you watching past seasons? I'm in Ireland too (South) and someone on the radio said all past seasons were on Netflix but I can only find S5 Sad

Furries · 22/03/2021 02:32

Definitely my favourite recommendation is when multiple people say “I’m so jealous you get to watch it all from the start”.

Just to reiterate - I’m jealous!

OP - glad you’ve enjoyed the first episode. You’ve got some great viewing ahead of you.

peridito · 22/03/2021 09:15

I watched and enjoyed it last night .Had to deploy subtitles as usual .For the love of God do we have to use so many acronyms ? I'm sure it's authentic but ...

Three points

Vicky McClure ( as Kate ) does not work at all for me .I don't want to be cruel but I think she's a bad actress .

I agree with previous poster that the H story ended up as a cul de sac .

Where can I find a written recap of previous series ? I've watched but can't remember them.

Norwaydidnthappen · 22/03/2021 10:11

Start at the beginning. It’s a very good series so you’ll get into it pretty quickly and won’t be able to stop.

LadyCatStark · 22/03/2021 10:37

Waaaaay too much of a backstory. Plus I’ve seen them all and still haven’t really got the last few seasons. Just find H already and move on!

GreenHairThingy · 22/03/2021 10:44

I've watched them all but need a recap before starting a new series!

Twinkie01 · 22/03/2021 11:05

I've watched all of them and am still bloody confused!

anomletteandaglassofwine · 22/03/2021 12:16

@DianaPrinceRocks I sent you a pm as we had to access it through nefarious means!

I'm jealous OP. I'd love the pleasure of seeing them all afresh.
Me too, I just love this series. It is my all time favourite!!

Thanks @thenightsky

williowrosenburg · 23/03/2021 12:20

DH and I watched season 1 & 2.... made a start on season 3 but thought it was ridiculous! And stopped after the first episodes
Is it worth picking it back up again.... does it get better?
