Weekend away for 40th?

I’m about to turn 40.
Wondering about a weekend away. It would most likely be me and two adult relatives. Any suggestions?

Guidelines:
Three nights most likely.
Anywhere in UK but not Oxford (my nearest city)
We would need to stay in a major chain hotel, travel by train and ideally be able to access things on foot in the area.
I’m not a foodie. I hate afternoon tea. Spa weekends are not my thing.
I like musicals, museums and green space. Big crafter and reader.

Cambridge - it’s got some great book shops, museums and open spaces such as Midsummer Common, The Backs and Coe Fern. You could even walk along the river to Grantchester and back. There’s a very central Hilton hotel which gets good reviews but it does look a little formulaic. There’s one of the Hotel du Vin and Bistro chain in Cambridge. It’s not a major chain, but the hotel seems to have lots of atmosphere and character. It’s very close to the Fitzwilliam museum too. There’s a craft shop called Sew Knit Craft which runs workshops too.

Cambridge sounds great, never thought about that.

I’m looking for formulaic in my hotel I think! I have access needs and I want to go somewhere that has a system. Somewhere where I wheel in knowing that the one in London was fine, as was the one in Bath (or wherever) so this will be too because they do the rooms the same wherever in the world you are.

Why don’t you look into air b n b rather than a chain hotel? It’s usually much cheaper and you get more for your money!

@Themadcatparade I wouldn’t trust Air B&B to have to level of wheelchair access required.

Ah I see. You can contact hosts directly with questions and they usually are pretty good with responding with details about your requirements and needs.

I hope you find somewhere!
