No longer produced toilet parts (yes really I am serious)

I know how this title reads so will start by apologising Smile

Dh trying to fix the downstairs toilet lifted the lid of the sistine and it slipped out of his hand and broke.

Problem is we rent and are due to leave in July. So manic check online we discover the toilet is over 15 years old and no longer produced.

Is there a shop anywhere that specialises in old no longer produced parts? The actual toilet functions well (apart from an annoying tendency to block but this is usually easily fixed by flushing and pumping -what dh was about to do when it happened)

Annoyingly the toilet is not a standard shape or colour. Its kinda square with an almost grey pebbledash appearance.

eBay? I sympathise - we had one small bolt/washer problem that meant our toilet kept flushing. Wasn't even 9 years old and impossible to get the exact same washer and bolt, even the manufacturer couldn't help. Ended up with a whole new flush system because of that

Been looking on ebay but no luck so far

I would imagine it will be cheaper to buy a whole new loo from wickes or toolstation than try and find a new top. My husband changed ours after watching a few YouTube videos...

YY much cheaper to buy a new WC. Might be worth speaking to your landlord first ( if you are on good terms ). If the bathroom is so old they might be planning to refurbish it when you leave.

LL is a bit odd and very precious about her home (not house home) she had issues with us not putting flowers out in the empty flower baskets so telling her the top has broken will cause a meltdown.

Is it completely smashed can it not be glued back, there’s some tough adhesives these days.

DinosaurDiana · 21/03/2021 14:41

I had a similar problem and it was cheaper to have a new toilet fitted than buy just the lid. Crazy.

Try Salvage yards? https://www.englishsalvage.co.uk/accessoriesitemcatt_2021

There used to be a company that dealt exclusively with old bathroom suites. So if you needed a replacement avocado wash- basin or peach cistern you could track it down. It was popular with TV set designers. I've done a quick Google and I can't find it but worth having a look yourself.

Bargebill19 · 21/03/2021 14:49

Ask a local potter if they can make a replica?

Bargebill19 · 21/03/2021 14:50

Can it not be glued back together? Even by a professional. ?

Enko · 21/03/2021 18:28

@DinosaurDiana Problem there is sink is the same colour so would need to be toilet AND sink

@Bargebill19 there are professionals who glues such things together? It can be glued but missing a small part

@WildCherryBlossom & CovidCorvid Looking

Yes and they could probably fix the missing bit. But it is likely to be at a high price. Nothing stopping you from asking a local potter or restorer for a quote.

WildImaginings · 21/03/2021 18:35

Try brokenbog

titchy · 21/03/2021 18:38
