Really in demand job roles...

I’m a SAHM atm. Really eager to get back into the workplace and earn my own money. And to build my self esteem after so many years feeling lonely whilst changing nappies.

I’m only educated to GCSE level so I’m hoping I will qualify for help with further education.
But what do I choose to do? I’d like something that will put me on a firm pathway to employment.

What shall I train as so I can guarantee a job at the end of it?

Working in Sales pays well and is, in my experience, a job that can fit in around children and school hours if required. There are usually tons of Telesales jobs available and then once you've experience in that area you can move on to other sales roles which pay even higher wages and commission.

Finance. Despite AI there is still a growing need for human decisions as it is getting more complicated in all areas - lending, leasing, insurance, tax to name a few areas.

There are SO many staff roles within the emergency services. And the control rooms are open 24/7 and generally pay really well. I wouldnt be able to work a 9-5 monday to friday, yes i am tired working nights but i love my job and the pay is really good working unsociable hours.

There are dozens of answers and all of them depend on how academic you are, your aptitudes and personality, flexibility, what you enjoy, etc. It's not going to be much good recommending you sales if you're an introvert who hates being "salesy". Sales pays well in part because few people are really wired for it.

Can you lay out some more parameters?

It's all related to labour market information and the growth sectors

I agree with Scarface. You need to give more clues about what you can do or would suit. The field is too wide.

ScarfaceCwaw · 21/03/2021 15:51

Yeah, I mean, what good would it do you if we recommended medicine and you have crap science grades or no flexibility for shifts? Or data analysis, and you hate maths and need to work with people to feel motivated?

What are your GCSEs? What grades did you get in them? What motivates you? How much flexibility do you have? What type of person are you? What would other people say are your strengths? Are you willing to put in a long slog to qualify in something?

Bear in mind that everyone wants a secure, on-demand job. So a secure, in-demand job that most people can do will have strong downward pressure on wages and probably pay min wage. (Op. cit: care work.) In-demand jobs that pay decently will be jobs with higher barriers to entry, which either require significant training or specific personal qualities.

Anything in healthcare would probably guarantee employment, but obviously you have to be suited to it.

If you're in the UK look at NHS jobs, but the same is true everywhere. Obviously its not just medicine and nursing, there are hundreds of different jobs in healthcare, some of which are office hours and some not.

If you visit totaljobs there's a quiz you can do on there and it shows you jobs suited to you.

This is the skilled worker occupation list for immigration into the UK - you could browse that for a wider range of ideas. All jobs the UK doesn't have enough qualified staff to do, so very high chance of employment! workpermit.com/immigration/united-kingdom/skilled-worker-shortage-occupation-list

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme, interesting link to the immigration list.

I notice graphic designers are on that list. Surely, that is not an area where we need more people. It is already pretty competitive in that field to get jobs.

I'd learn a trade and work for myself. Plenty of women would love to employ a female electrician, plasterer, decorator or plumber
