Okay, I give in. We have tried all our resources and are drawing a blank.
I was at university in the very late 1980s and one of the prints I had in my room was a painting (print) of a Columbine, Pierrot, and Harlequin dancing in a street or market square that looked as if it was somewhere in France or Italy. The stones of the buildings were a sort of mellow golden colour (a bit like Bath stone or the colours you often see in the Cotswolds, but it was definitely a European setting, not English).
I'd love to try and get a copy of the print again but am drawing a blank. We thought it might be Chocarne-Moreau, but it doesn't look like any of his catalogue I've found so far (though it's relatively similar in style). I can't remember where I bought it, though it's likely to have been either Smiths or Athena.
All ideas welcome!
