If you had a baby that loved napping in a sling or carrier...

...how long were you able to that for?

My four month old naps exclusively in her carrier (and in her sling as newborn)

It works for us both as I'm on the go with DC1, so I have my hands free and it's very chilled for us both as once we've finished playing or whatever I pop her in at naptime and she looks around until she's ready to sleep. While in the carrier she generally sleeps through any noise or activity, whereas on the rare occasion she sleeps in car seat she wakes very easily.

I don't want to make any big changes yet as have a hospital stay with DC1 in a few weeks and DD2 is allowed to come with us, so it would be great to know I can continue for now and concentrate on DD1 - on the other hand I'm not sure how long she can really nap like this for? I suppose the carrier is up to 12 months so there's no reason she can't nap in it for a while yet, although eventually I'll need her to sleep in cot for naps I suppose

DD1 was the same and we started using the pram for naps at 6 months. At first we had to keep pushing it but eventually could leave it in the hallway once she was asleep. She did all naps there until she dropped them at nearly 3. It was flexible as she napped well on days out etc. DD2 is 4 months and also a sling napper and will do the same I hope.

I'm not a parent but nanny to a 13mth old who still naps either on me or in the carrier. If we go out of the house she'll look around a bit until she falls asleep but at home she seems to need a more focussed pace-and-shush routine. She's out in about 5mins so it's no bother.

There are carriers that take children up to the age of about 4 and I knew a child once who would still fall asleep in one at about 18mths (maybe older I can't remember) though he usually slept in the buggy.

If it works then don't change it simply because people expect your DC to be sleeping elsewhere. Do what suits you!

We got to around 8 months or so when she wouldn't sleep in the carrier anymore, she wanted to be outward facing then and would just cry and cry if we tried to keep her facing in. She mostly napped in the pram instead or on us.

My second loved the sling but I think it does help to get them used to the cot early on. I found it became important to use nap time to spend good 1:1 time with my eldest. You can just do much more if the baby is in a cot versus the sling. I also started to find it hard going in the sling from maybe 10 months onwards and I was never really confident enough to try back carrying.

From around 10 months we stopped but moved onto pram - walk him to sleep and then leave him in the garden or hallway

Mine napped consistently in the sling until 9 months when she started nursery, but then she'd still regularly sleep in it til probably 1.5. Even up til about 3 she'd sleep in the carrier with dh (she was too heavy for me to carry her for long periods of time at that age). Neither of mine have ever slept in cots for naps. They sleep on something (a floor mat?) at nursery, but at home, it was always in the sling, pushchair or in the car, which was great because I never wanted to be stuck at home or to a strict routine and never able to get out and do things.

Until around two years (we used to bounce gently on a yoga/birth ball).
