Where do you get your news?

I feel like atm I'm so full of questions, I want some real news, I dont want to read the DM and similar sites but I feel like the bbc doesn't give me enough stories. I fucking hate sites like the DM for there constant pics of women in bikinis and similar.

For example I'll hear a snipit about how bad covid is in Brazil on the Golbal News Podcast and want to read more but the bbc doesn't have a proper story on it. Or the same with India, it might say cases are rising but I want more details about what it's like on the ground there, how the people there are feeling.

I also heard a snipit about a summit in Alaska between the USA and China yet havent found an article online from a credible news source.

Maybe I'm just finding the bbc site to not be user friendly or maybe I'm not digging hard enough. I want news there in front of me so I can read it quickly in between tasks.

BBC world service is good for global news. Also magazines like The Economist.

DisgruntledPelican · 20/03/2021 07:47

Over the past few years I’ve been reading a lot of American outlets like the Washington Post, NY Times etc, and more politically focused outlets like The Hill. They have good global coverage. Also BBC world service.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/03/2021 08:26

This may be a silly question, but are you going through the 'World' section of the BBC website?

For example, if you click on world and then Latin America under News, you get several news stories from South America, with one of the most prominent ones being about the COVID situation in Brazil.

There's also click through links to other news agencies with more detail.

RT, AlJazera, i, Reddit, Huffington post,

Spillanelle · 20/03/2021 09:07

I listen to Radio 4 mainly, the Today Programme and PM are both very good for a more in depth analysis of the news. I also like The Guardian online if I get time to actually sit down and read the news.

Worriedmummy82 · 20/03/2021 09:13

CNN and Al Jazeera online are both good for picking up stories not covered by UK based news outlets. Independent online is good for everyday news.

Worriedmummy82 · 20/03/2021 09:17

Mildred are there German and French newspapers available in English versions online? If so which would you recommend please?

Amorousfrog · 20/03/2021 09:17

It helps to read from a range of sources, both within the UK and outside. BBC, The Times, The FT, the Economist, NY Times, Al Jazeera, NZ Herald, Sydney Morning Herald...

Im not very discerning so i look at Le Monde and speak enough french to manage but i think you can see it in English as an option. I also look at der spiegel and you can see that in english/use google translate as i only read certain articles and recognise enough words to know which i want. My dh speaks german. I just find if we are getting lots of headlines saying 'europe blah blah blah' its nice to see how its reported in europe.

You have to remember that most mainstream news outlets are aimed at "..a reasonably informed thirteen year old". Don't go mainstream if you are 30 or above.
