ONLY 3 meals a day (zero snacks)

This is kind of light hearted but I was talking to a friend the other day and we got on to the topic of food. She said she has 3 meals a day and literally nothing else. So basically breakfast at 7am, lunch at 12pm and dinner at 6pm - and no other food! She said snacking is a bad habit.
I was a bit surprised but it got me thinking about what I eat - there's no way I could just have 3 meals and nothing else the whole day (I'm up at 7am, bed about 11pm).

A typical day for me food wise is:
7am Breakfast (e.g. cereal)
10.30am Snack (e.g.. apple)
12pm Lunch (e.g.. Cheese salad roll)
3pm Snack (e.g.. carrot sticks)
6pm Dinner (e.g.. chicken stir fry)
7pm Snack/ Dessert (e.g.. small bar of dark chocolate)
9pm Snack (Supper!) (e.g.. crackers)

I like to think I'm pretty healthy but maybe I am consuming too much.

What do others do / think?

cricketmum84 and it was sunflowersandbuttercups who originally said that comment was ridiculous if that makes it any less suspicious to you...

Thanks RedHotChiliChips
Out if interest, do you disagree with the whole 5 a day concept then? It seems to be one of the key Public Health messages around consuming more fruit & veg...

I skip breakfast to save calories for snacks later in the day. The sooner I start eating the sooner I kick start my appetite to want to eat, so waiting until lunch to eat suits me for a couple reasons!

Ah that makes sense. The quote from the PP wasn't highlighted so it read like you were talking to yourself.... 😂

I rarely eat breakfast and rarely snack.

At the moment I’m missing lunch too as I want to be in reasonable shape for our daughter’s wedding. I wouldn’t usually just do one meal a day, but know I’m no good at calorie counting. If I just do one meal a day, I don’t have to restrict myself and don’t go to bed hungry. I find if I eat a small amount I get hungrier.

minniemoocher · 20/03/2021 22:22

I rarely snack, it's not something I was brought up doing and I don't eat smaller meals if I've smacked so they are extra calories. I will occasionally eat fruit in the morning if I didn't get time to eat some with my breakfast but that's it. I'm overweight even with being strict with myself!

@RedHotChiliChips

You are free to think it's a ridiculous suggestion.

A small carrot contains approximately an equivalent of one teaspoon of sugar. Carrot also of course contains vitamins and fibre too and is a better snack than couple of biscuits, but on it's own (including any fruit), no not a great snack. You'd be a lot better off to eat nothing than a bunch of carrot sticks.

But if you feel good OP, then carry on, it obviously suits you. You were curious to know other view points though.

A teaspoon of sugar is 16 calories - a couple of thousand of which are required by the average woman each day.

Having something with carbohydrates (which fruit and veg sugars are ) isn’t to be shied away from unless you are overeating. Carrots are a healthy way to eat those necessary calories because of the fibre and vitamins they also add to a diet.

I don't think the op eats much at all considering she breakfasts at 7am and goes to bed at 11pm. I expect she has a busy day. Her 'snacks' are quite miniscule. I used to eat a lot more than that when I was at work and was always slim and fit.

@LaChatte

I misread the title as only three males a day.
Way-hey!
