Kids Tv - Where is it all at nowadays?

I'm going to sound well old and very out of touch asking this one but I need help as I am clueless! I was a 90s kid, tv entertainment centred around 1-2 channels on terrestrial tv with live and kicking and smtv live being the Saturday morning kids highlight of the wk! All kids watched the same show as it was accessible to all and everyone loved it, there were so many kid friendly pop bands that guest stars featured live on set and it was so exciting to see which star might pop up on Saturday morning, this filled a good 2-3 hours for kids and prob saved mum and Dads sanity for a bit too for a bit of a break. What do kids do now a days on Saturday mornings? Like is this not a thing anymore meaning there is no central sort of thing they do competitively to live and kicking, I get the feeling they watch tv streamed from load of differnt places as the options are so much greater than they used to be. I have a young toddler and I want to make sure she is of course doing what other kids her age are doing, when she gets a bit older and ready for tv but I was interested In what 5 year olds plus alternative do now tv wise to what I had as mentioned about at a similar age... I also remember finishing school and seeing so many shoes like byker grove, count duckula, fun house, art attack and who all after school and they've all gone!!! And that plasterine man named merf it was brilliant! So sad and I remember moonmims every wknd on terrestrial. My daughter would have loved all of this, what do kids do now in comparison??!!! 🤷‍♀️

I have found you can I think get like moonmims, Winnie the Pooh and animals of farthing wood

It's all YouTube.

There are freeview channels for kids TV.
The ones suitable for 5 year olds are CBeebies and Tiny Pop.

Posted before I finished! You can get a few of the old golden oldies shows on you tube and also prime video which I'll have to check out, but am I doing the right thing letting her watch what I loved so much, like i don't want her missing out on what the others kids watch, like if she preferred the old stuff to the stuff all kids her own age are watching?? I have seen peppa pig and I can't lie it isn't a patch on count duckula or the moonmins!! And trap door!

I know there's also bbc i player kids mode too and Disney plus, I think im just surprised at how many options there are now compared to when I was a kid! We got Nickelodeon around age 12 but we were only one of a few that did as our dad was really into IT and that sort of stuff.

DS is five, I'd put CBeebies on for him and he'll ask for YouTube Kids. We also record his favourite show from Tony Pop and watch that but less so these days. When they're a bit older there's CBBC which will show the same kind of targeted shows we watched as kids I guess.

As a toddler there's lovely shows on CBeebies like Toddler Club and Tiny Wonders as well as educational stuff like AlphaBlocks and Numberblocks which you can get on iPlayer if you don't want to risk her watching the more frivolous stuff

@SleepingStandingUp Thanks for the reply that's handy to know. I just realised recently how many amazing shows there were, tv was king when I was a kid and I know they say they shouldn't watch too much of it but it was so much fun and they've got to have some fun, I'm not saying they should sit in front of it all day but they don't even have a Fun house show as far as I'm aware, I loved that it was so much fun!

There’s some great shows on CBBC for older kids.

My older two(8 &10) currently like Floor is Lava and You’ve Been Framed. They sometimes watch someone on YouTube who does minecraft videos.

Closest would be Swashbuckle where they're all 5-6ish. Justin's House has a live kids audience. Obv ignoring the whole covid thing over the last year but before that... There's one where the Ranger tales three kids for a walk around to discover a new way of looking at their local town / area. One where a kid invites friends round and cooks a special / regional dish for them with a surprise ingredient. My First is a recording of a family and the first time the kid does something but broken down (so first time sibling, video of being told, seeing mom's scan pic, buying a teddy, meeting baby). Baby club was actually pre covid done with Gia or Nigel running a baby group so circle songs, discovery bags etc.
In terms of educational there so me called how does it work that uses tiny cameras to see how pasta is made or washing machines work etc and a vehicle one to look at the (female) hosts favourite vehicles and a new one called "what's on your head" that goes from religious headwear to cycling helmets etc.

And that's just the live ones on CBeebies. There's a ton of brilliant animated too.

Just avoid Topsy and Frigging Tim and Waffle the annoying talking Wonder Dog
