I have spent a third of today's calories on chocolate cake.

As above really.

I feel really guilty and that what I did is wrong.

It has come out of my 1558 calories a day that I'm allowed. It was chocolate cake dh and kids ordered for mothers day.

Will it affects this week's loss because of what it was? Or it doesn't matter because it was within my calorie count and the cake has now gone.

Feeling really guilty because I didnt spend my allocation on healthy food.

Calories well spent if you ask me OP! If you otherwise stick to your plan it's unlikely to make much difference.

Depends if you're doing SW or WW? Or OMAD, in which case you're fine as long as you don't eat until August.

JovialNickname · 17/03/2021 22:57

You'll be fine! I think 500 cals is quite reasonable for chocolate cake, I'd have eaten a lot more. I think you did well and a calorie is a calorie, it won't make any difference it was cake! There is a (very right, in my opinion) school of thought that says if you indulge yourself a little, you are less likely to go off track in the long run.

Plus, your kids got to see you enjoying their mothers day cake. I think it would have been wrong to refuse their efforts for the sake of a diet. I think you got the balance just right!

Doesn’t matter if you go over once in a while - if you get back to your usual intake the next day you will still lose

Tangogolf55 · 18/03/2021 06:40

You only live once!

Sleepingdogs12 · 18/03/2021 06:46

You are aware of how many calories you need and how many are in the cake and have used this as part of your count as an occasional treat . That's a success isn't it ?

Eivor · 18/03/2021 06:47

It doesn’t make a difference if you eat 500 calories of cake or 500 calories of anything else, it’s still the same number so it won’t make a difference as long as you’re still in a deficit.

zzizzer · 18/03/2021 07:00

Meh, guilt is pointless. Especially over rare occasions like Mothers Day celebrations. You don't want to look back on this time as just endless misery and self-flagellation.

You should probably think of a "diet" as a long, slow, permanent change in the way you eat - where you will inevitably break the rules once in a while (and probably should for your own sanity).

In terms of how it physically impacts you, it depends, but there have been days I've gone massively over calories (think 3000 instead of 1500), apparently gone up a pound, and within a few days I'm back to normal again. It's all about slow steady consistency.

GreenBalaclava · 18/03/2021 07:04

Me too OP! Mother's Day cake (not chocolate though) wrecked my diet on Sunday. Back on it now.

ragtimeloves · 18/03/2021 07:07

Please be kind to yourself. its ok to enjoy food! moderation and balance!

BarbaraofSeville · 18/03/2021 07:51

Just write it off as a one off.

They say 3500 calories is equivalent to 1 pound weight loss, so 558 calories is a couple of ounces so won't make a noticeable difference as a one off.

Plus have a word with yourself about the guilt. That's not a healthy way to think about food. If you're going to reach and stay a healthy weight, and not put yourself through an endless cycle of yo yo dieting, you need to eat in a way that's sustainable for life, with mostly healthy food, but the odd piece of chocolate cake or other treat along the way.

As long as you're eating well 80% of the time, there's room for chocolate cake on top once or twice a week.

ChameleonClara · 18/03/2021 07:54

I really think being too worried about what you eat and calories is unhelpful. Just eat healthily the majority of the time.

H1978 · 18/03/2021 08:29

I wouldn’t worry, you’re allowed one day of indulgence.
