Anyone regret getting a Fitbit?

Hi,

Just that I suppose.

DP has one and uses it for everything! They're constantly monitoring heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep pattern in great detail, inputting calories, counting steps and now it's linked up to Alexa, so is constantly asking it to set alarms, reminders and timers!

Having said that, they do feel better and are getting fitter, so 🤷‍♀️

Do you have one? If so, for how long and do you still use it as much/at all?

I've been thinking about getting one, given DPs success, but am worried it'll turn into an obsession. I don't want to start panicking if my oxygen levels drop by a point or my quality of sleep was marked as only "fair" one night Confused

TIA

@WrongKindOfFace

I thought that at first but it's not on DND but still the notifications don't come through - I read online it's a fairly common fault with the Fitbit's but I've only had mine a year

I've had a fitbit since 2016, I have found it very helpful at times , and less so when I've been "naughty" I've still worn it pretty much every single day since I've had one.
At times I've felt motivated, it's really help me with weight loss and fitness.
At my less fit times, I've still worn it to track my sleep. I've found it a useful tool, and think it's well worth while.
I've "made' friends when I've been challenging myself to do more.
When I'm not able to, or not in that state of mind, it'd been useful to track my sleep at the very most.

Mine is gathering dust under the bed. I think it massively overestimates calories burned and is really only an estimate based on the numbers you enter in terms of your height/weight, not your own personal metabolism.

Please don’t go to GPs with ‘evidence’ of heart rate, oxygen levels etc off FitBits. They’re not accurate enough and GPs are getting as fed up of FitBit pseudo-ECGs as they are of people challenging them with Dr Google. I will now be jumped on by someone who no doubt diagnosed their life-threatening heart condition with a FitBit and proved their stubborn GP wrong, but in the main I can assure you a FitBit trace will be dimly viewed.

Also - using it to track sleep is pointless. It doesn’t track sleep. It detects when you’re horizontal and not moving much - it works on movement sensors, not brain waves. I was lying in bed for two hours on my phone one night but FitBit was quite adamant I was in deep sleep phase.

I've had one for years. Then the screen cracked so I 'upgraded' at Xmas to a Samsung Galaxy watch which is all singing and dancing..can answer calls, play music etc etc. Hate it.. it feels huge and bulky and the battery life is rubbish. It's now in a drawer.
Having paid good money for it I didn't want to splash out on another fitbit so got a chinese knock off from Amazon (a Teminice) for under £30 and it does exactly the same as my fitbit, and even better, doesn't need a separate charging cable :)

I just like the step count tho.. I don't get obsessive over sleep (or lack of)
DH on the other hand is a Fitbit bore..constantly checking his stats, his heart etc, and it's very irritating!

Been through 3 now. All a replacement for the same watch. The straps break and the watch goes dark and can't be recharged. They are rubbish unfortunately

I think it's best viewed as a pedometer with some extras that can potentially indicate something about your health. I've really enjoyed mine, it's helped to propel me out of the house for a walk this lockdown, since u had become very sedentary without noticing due to WFH in Covid.

I agree with the others that it is a bit bonkers about how it classifies levels of activity. I spent an afternoon cleaning out my kitchen cupboards and it thought I was swimming. A fast power-walk to work yesterday (was REALLY late!) was 25 minutes on the elliptical. Funny little thing!

It's not an exact science, but it does the job. I just have the basic Versa model, so I use it as a glorified watch.
