Is 9.45am on a weekday too early to cut the hedges?

Sorry, very boring I know. Hedges need cutting, weather is looking to get worse, I'd like to get it done before it rains but don't want to upset the neighbours. Is 9.45am on a Wednesday too early to cut hedges?

Not at all

LBOCS2 · 17/03/2021 09:49

No, it's absolutely fine!

nongnangning · 17/03/2021 09:49

Not too early at all. Go for it!

Roszie · 17/03/2021 09:50

No that's okay. Just make sure they don't have any nests in. Mine have loads at the moment

Sansaplans · 17/03/2021 09:50

No, I would say after 9 (probably earlier would be okay but on the safe side) would be fine.

megletsecond · 17/03/2021 09:51

It's bird nesting season isn't it?

Nowayhozay · 17/03/2021 09:56

Yes it's too early. Wait until August the birds need somewhere to nest

magicstar1 · 17/03/2021 10:00

It should have been done weeks ago....now you should wait until August when nesting season is over.

Ismellphantoms · 17/03/2021 10:04

It depends on the hedging, whether it's small and neat, or tall. Birds certainly never nest in my two foot high hedging. If there's no possibility of a nest, cut it.

42andcounting · 17/03/2021 10:11

Thanks all. I'm 100% sure there are no nests, the hedge is very thin and sparse after the winter and you can see all the way through it to next doors house. I'm not cutting it back, just trimming round the edges and the random sticking up bits on top.

In terms of time of day it's fine. In terms of time of the year, March to August is birdnesting season and disturbing a bird's nest is an offence according unde the
Wildlife and Countryside Act

PattyPan · 17/03/2021 10:47

No after 9 is fine, assuming your neighbours aren’t on night shifts or something

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 17/03/2021 10:52

no that's fine.

not like Mrs next door having her stair carpet fitted by some cowboy at eightfuckingfifteen on Sunday.

And she had the cheek to moan that our cat was walking on her fence stalking her bird table....amusingly (for us, not her) her dog had an explosive diarrhoea incident on our lawn while she was mentioning the cat and the birdtable to dh, so I think that's quits forever. :o :o

windymillertheecowarrior · 17/03/2021 11:25

No it is reasonable. Though good to read that you are considerate to ask.

Ifiwasadaisy · 17/03/2021 11:30

We have builders opposite. They show up at 7. Full on noise starts on the dot of 8. They work Saturday mornings from 8 too. All legal and allowed by the council under their noise rules. 9:45 is an entirely appropriate time for hedge trimming.

PandemicPalava · 17/03/2021 11:34

Aren't hedges supposed to be left now for birds?
