Mooncup WTAF

I bought one of these to be more eco friendly and have been waiting patiently to use it.

OMG. The pain. It's like having a hard bit of plastic shoved up there. I waited a song as I could bear it before taking it out.

The agony of removing it nearly made me faint. I then spilt all over the floor

Is it me doing it wrong or are these awful and just have great marketing? I've sent DH out for some tampons.

If I get the positioning wrong it can make my anal sphincter spasm which is bloody awful and really painful to remove, I haven't used it for a few months due to that even though it didn't happen very often.

Mydogisagentleman · 18/03/2021 13:20

You have my sympathy.
I am long finished with periods, but the sole time I removed a moon up I actually thought I was removing my pelvis bones too

I used a Mooncup for very many years and never experienced anything like that! I never even cut the stem off. Couldn’t feel a thing. However I did randomly recently have a bit of a bleed and thought I’d use it, but I couldn’t at all! Think it’s because of my vaginal dryness though.

You might need the smaller size. I've had two vaginal births and I'm quite tall for a woman and I need a smaller size than all the calculators say.

You may also need a softer firmness if it's causing you pain as it really shouldn't. I am stupidly oversensitive, can feel tampons, but I can't feel a cup once it's in. The problem I have with the post childbirth sized mooncup isn't pain, it's that it puts pressure on my urethra and causes me to get utis.

BertieBotts · 18/03/2021 13:29

Should add, there is no softer mooncup and even the before size is on the bigger side. Have a look at different brands of cup.

You can send the mooncup back for a refund as you haven't got on with it, it's their guarantee.

Tal45 · 18/03/2021 13:39

I don't like taking them out, it is uncomfortable and might be a bit tricky if you cut the whole stem off but they are so useful (and if in right you can't feel them) x

QueenPaw · 18/03/2021 13:41

I don't like the moon cup because of the hard rim
Have this one which is a lot softer https://femininewear.co.uk/products/ladycup-menstrual-cups

Jesus Christ I liked the idea of the mooncup but unfortunately my vagina basically ate it both times I tried to wear it to the point there was no way I could retrieve it - the husband had to go in and get it. And it wasn’t easy or pleasant. As a result, I’m now banned from using one. Anyone else had a similar problem?

Nervousdave · 18/03/2021 13:49

I have an organicup which is firmish silicone but still soft. Im still using the pre-birth size even though I've had a vaginal birth, as I feel like this one is big enough! I also run mine under the hot tap first, like PP.

I find if I'm having a really crampy day then I cant use it, so I use the reusable cheekypants on those days.

Sunshineandflipflops · 18/03/2021 14:07

I love my mooncup and haven't used a tampon for years now but it did take a couple of cycles to get used to it. I never had pain though, just a bit of mild discomfort to start with.

Thecomfortador · 18/03/2021 14:19

Didn't know you could send them back, it's probably been too long for me now but it is the object of my rage for a good part of the month. It's neither convenient or straight forward or even workable at times. Awful thing. (I use it to reduce the amount of pads I need so I suppose it has some benefit, but some months I treat myself to a complete break from it).

Akire · 18/03/2021 14:22

I was the same! Everyone loves them not me. I could fold it up and get it in wasn’t to uncomfortable. But never managed to get it to come out unless in “full umbrella” mode.

amusedbush · 18/03/2021 16:14

I didn’t get on with my mooncup. I bought the smaller size and I found it massive and so rigid. Inserting and removing it was so painful, by day three of my period I could barely sit down.

I switched to a soft ‘shorty’ cup from Meluna and it’s great.
