Scented candle issue!

GallopingGreen · 16/03/2021 20:37

It annoys me so much when a scented candle burns down leaving a heap of the expensive wax all around the side of the jar! Am I burning these things incorrectly?? It can happen with both cheap and expensive scented candles.
Anyone have any tips on how to make sure the candle burns down evenly, so as not to waste it and the wick is gone with half the candle wax still there...
I'm feeling frustrated here having to throw out half a jar of my favourite scented candle that is a real treat for me usually...

Keep the wick trimmed short and it will burn more evenly.

Hi op I used to have the same problem until I started using a candle topper. I've found this helps them to burn evenly so wax isn't collected on the sides x

You need to burn it for long enough for the entire surface to melt each time, otherwise it will tunnel. Once it’s done that there is no recovery.

You can buy candle wicks from craft sites, melt the left over wax, and pour a new candle.

It’s the first light. First time you use a new candle, trim the wick to around 3mm and let it burn all the way to the edges. This could take some time for larger candles!! Otherwise you’ll create a well.

This. The first time you light it takes a long time to sufficiently melt the wax so don’t light them unless they’ll be lit for hours.

Don't throw them out! You can make new candles if you buy some wicks. I've got a stash of old ones waiting to be recycled at the moment.

Make a little hat out of foil round the sides and 2cm in over the top and burn it with that on, will melt the edge wax.

Oh thank you all! Was thinking this is a silly post but I have actually learned a few tips. Had not heard of a candle topper before either - that could help avoid the "tunnelling"!
You've even helped me describe this more accurately! Grin

You can use the leftover scented wax in a burner with a t light like a wax melt.

mrsrhodgilbert · 16/03/2021 20:53

I’d never heard of a candle topper

Nervousseller2020 · 16/03/2021 20:56

Use the left over wax as wax melts
