Before I get it wrong...what trainers do your pre-teen dd's wear??

Dd2 needs new trainers & I've been hunting t'interweb today.

Before I manage to suggest the wrong thing (and get told off, again, like I did for suggesting she wear mine for PE tomorrow Grin), what should I have in my online basket to suggest?

OP posts:
Frenchfancy · 16/03/2021 19:31

Nike air force 1s but she won't wear them for PE in case they get spoilt, so she wears decathlon own brand.

Tbf she is 14 now and her feet have stopped growing and the nikes last better than any other shoes (no uniform so she wears them to school)

kowari · 16/03/2021 19:31

Just ask what she likes? DS (14) asked for grey trainers so I went on sportsshoes and narrowed it down to grey trail runners in his size, sorted by price. He wears them out of school and needs something with a decent tread. He liked the first pair, done!

CombatBarbie · 16/03/2021 19:33

@ilovemaisie it's not the parents, it's peer pressure. I'm sure many of us who grew up outside perfect families can tell stories of being teased for not wearing labels at high school, I know I was.

My DD13 wears Vans, Air Force 1s and Stan Smiths. DD10 has fila and Nike air max but these are bought at Xmas and birthdays.

For PE they both have black nikes with the white tick, these seem to be popular option at both schools.

GintyMcGinty · 16/03/2021 19:33

Tesco or Asda trainers.

kowari · 16/03/2021 19:33

@mummyof2boys30

My son is 11 next week and loves clarks 🙈 i have been trying to get him into nike 😂 he will have to before starting secondary in September
Why? My DS is in year 10 and it has never been an issue that he doesn't care in the slightest about brands.
megletsecond · 16/03/2021 19:35

Secondary PE, karrimor trails.
Causal, Nike daybreak.

Ilovemaisie · 16/03/2021 19:37

CombatBarbie but who teaches that idea to children? Who introduces them to the concept of 'labels'?

megletsecond · 16/03/2021 19:37

Air force 1's are a flat street shoe. Nothing to do with exercise Confused.

oh GOD I sound old

oohmyback · 16/03/2021 19:38

Nike. For primary pe any Nikes will do. Have a look at what's cheap in sports direct.

oohmyback · 16/03/2021 19:40

Air Force 1s are not for pe though??

Jordan's are way over priced! My 2 year old has just bought Nike ebernon high tops instead of Jordan's for £50.

VenusClapTrap · 16/03/2021 19:41

If you asked my dd(10) what kind of trainers she has she’d just say ‘turquoise ones’. She’s completely unaware of brands. I don’t think any of her friends are interested either.

oohmyback · 16/03/2021 19:42

My 14 year old had these in year 7

DD and many of her friends have similar to this for PE. Check sports direct / M&M direct for lower prices.

oohmyback · 16/03/2021 19:43

Lol in previous post not my 2 year old, my 12 year old!

Puffinhead · 16/03/2021 20:00

Nike Air Force for secondary but cheap ones for primary. Mine didn5 know any different when they were younger.

LadyofMisrule · 16/03/2021 20:00

Pre-teens - Nike from Sports Direct.

Teen: Stupidly expensive Air Force Ones and some other Nike ones that she got for Xmas, and cares for like they are precious jewels.

ursuslemonade · 16/03/2021 20:21

My just turned 9yo has Skechers and a pair of no name trainers from ebay for PE. Am I a right old fuddy duddy for not even considering buying a 9 yo trainers costing over £100?

Logoplanter · 16/03/2021 20:28

I think it's sad that a primary aged child is bothered about which trainers she's wearing, over and above what colour they are and whether they are comfortable. Hopefully I've misunderstood and you aren't saying you primary aged DD is bothered about what label is on her shoes.

Hope she finds something she likes OP and you don't end up paying out for a label to make her happy.

KingsRoad · 16/03/2021 21:02

Nike Air Force for secondary
How can you do sport in those? Confused

peak2021 · 16/03/2021 21:36

I agree about the label rubbish. You will not be getting the wrong thing if they fit, are comfortable, and last until feet grow too big for them.

If she objects, remind her about those children in the UK whose families will struggle over the Easter holidays to put enough food on the table each day.

LittleMissA · 16/03/2021 21:50

My DD is 11 and runs as well so we buy her ASICS, her latest pair are mainly black with a few red bits and red laces.

ThorsMistress · 16/03/2021 22:53

My 9 year old has Air Force 1s as does his 2 year old brother!

But for school p.e he has bog standard cheap Adidas ones

VenusClapTrap · 16/03/2021 22:58

I’ve just googled Nike Air Force Ones thanks to this thread. They look very bog standard. Am I missing something?

mammmamia · 16/03/2021 23:05

I have Air Force 1’s ... I’m in my 40s but I love them Blush
They are really not for sport though!!

My DD 11 has white Nike Varsity. School says they have to be white. For out of school she has another pair of Nike, I don’t know which ones.

Nat6999 · 16/03/2021 23:09

Adidas superstars, if she is a child's size you can shop around & pick them up pretty cheap, she can wear them at other times as well then & get her wear out of them.
