High lipase in breast milk- help!

I’m heading back to work soon (part time)when baby ds will be 4.5 months old. He’s been exclusively bf up to now and I don’t really want it to come to an end yet.

I’ve stashed a whole freezer drawer full of milk to discover it takes revolting, I believe after some reading it’s high lipase.

Tried to scald some but it’s a total faff with 2 children to look after as well as actually feeding ds and expressing. I also lost an ounce to the process.

I know the frozen stuff is no good now, although I did read alcohol free vanilla extract can help but that doesn’t seem like a suitable option for a young baby.

Any tips to be able to still provide breast milk to ds? Otherwise I’m thinking it will be formula on work days.(nothing against formula, my eldest was ff) although I really wanted to get ds to 6+ months exclusively on breast milk.

Thank you.

Oh no!
Presumably you will need to pump whilst at work so he can have the previous day’s pumped milk and it will only have been refrigerated? (I’m assuming the lipase is only an issue with freezing and defrosting the milk?)

It can start to turn in the fridge. Some women’s can start immediately, others can last hours. I’ve tried some in the fridge from yesterday morning and it’s still ok. I will be working Monday and Thursdays so I could test some milk to see how long it will be good for in the fridge. Was so chuffed with my back up stash and not having to worry!

Could you at least use the freezer stash for cooking (for the baby!) once he’s old enough - maybe use it for porridge?! I agree, I’d be so upset to lose all that milk Sad

I wonder if I had this though as my baby never seemed keen on defrosted milk but was fine with recently pumped fridge milk.

Only just come back to this, forgot I’d posted.

Good idea re using for food. At least it won’t be totally wasted Smile
